Ariana Grande Has Gray Hair Now, and It Looks Awesome

If there’s one thing Ariana Grande is known for, besides her actual songs, it’s her hair: long, straight, and brown—often seen scraped back in a high ponytail or half-pony. (Her last major hair change was a little flirtation with blond last summer, in fact.) But a lot has changed in 2017, and the world is no longer quite as we once knew it. In this age of instability, it seems as though Grande’s hair is the latest constant to go off-kilter. The pop star has switched it up in a dramatic change, according to a few ’grams posted by both her and her hair stylist on Saturday. We mean switched it up too: Grande’s gone gray. And objectively speaking, it looks awesome.

The singer posted the new look to Instagram early Saturday morning, with the use of a Snapchat filter to capture some floating hearts around her head. But we’re pretty sure that her striking new gray hair isn’t filtered: “btw i (it’s grey)” she captioned the photo. The gray look seems to have some cool pink and blue tones infused in it, but that could very possibly be a filter thing.

Comments were super excited about the new look—even Gigi Hadid dropped off a lil’ heart-eyes emoji. It seems to have been the handiwork of hairstylist Chris Appleton, who’s also responsible for Kim Kardashian’s lift from dark brown to blond in September. He posted a similar pic to his Instagram around the same time as Grande. Makeup artist Patrick Ta, who did the makeup for the look, also posted the pic, captioned it “New Look Who Dis ��”—adding further fuel to the fire (sorry) that this color is here to stay, at least for a minute.

It’s possible that a certain moment with a metallic lilac wig helped give Grande the inspiration to go full-on shimmery silver; the singer Insta’d a picture of her in Tokyo with the faux light purple bob in August. We’ve reached out to Appleton for comment on Grande’s new gray, and we’ll update you as we get some details.

Do your worst, 2017. We’re definitely not mad about this latest curveball—and we love that Grande is playing around with her look.
