Beauty How-To: Modern Audrey Hepburn Hair and Makeup, as Seen Last Night on Emma Roberts

It has turned into Retro Day here at Girls in the Beauty Department; this morning, I showed you the chic new pairing of beehive hairstyles with colorful eye makeup, and now I’m going to share a how-to for the Audrey Hepburn-style hair and makeup Emma Roberts wore last night.

Audrey was the inspiration behind the look, shares our blog’s good pal, celebrity makeup artist Nick Barose. He and hairstylist Ryan Trygstad went for a modern-day Breakfast at Tiffany’s look: a chic topknot, fresh pink cheeks and lips, slightly retro black liquid liner, and full gamine brows.

“Ryan wanted keep the hair sleek and unfussy, perfect for a humid spring night,” Nick shares. To keep it young and fresh, he left the front section out and pinned it to create a side swoop, then pulled the rest of the hair into a high ponytail. Then he used the Sarah Potempa Wrap Up Foam Sponge Bun Maker (it’s a must-have hair accessory for the summer!) to create an ideal bun shape.

Nick kept Emma’s fair skin sheer, just using oil-free tinted moisturizer, then swirled sheer pink Dior Rosy Glow Blush on the apples of her cheeks. On her lips, he gently dotted on Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Never Say Never to create a soft rose-petal effect. His eyeliner of choice for the modern Audrey Hepburn look: Dolce & Gabbana Glam Liner Intense Liquid Liner. “I didn’t make the tails come out too much because we didn’t want to be too retro,” he says. “It just winged out about millimeters, nothing crazy.” The final touches: two coats of mascara, and brows darkened with Ramy Cosmetics Perfect Brow Wand.
