Dakota Johnson’s Hair Is Having a Moment (and We Have Its Tricks)
When it comes to your list of celebrities whose hair you would steal if given the chance (we all have such a list, right?), Dakota Johnson may have flown just slightly under your radar. Us too. We blame her distractingly beautiful lipstick choices. But the hairstyles she’s worn while out promoting her new film How to Be Single have gotten us to fully appreciate the enviability of her hair (which she’s been wearing shorter for nearly a year now, recently growing out her short bangs). In fact, we’re going to go out on a limb and say the actress of Fifty Shades fame has had her best hair week ever, and she has us resolving to get out our curling irons and dry shampoo this coming weekend.
We first took notice when Johnson appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon last Wednesday wearing the undone waves we all want now, which had just the right amount of bend to showcase her subtle highlights. To create the waves, hairstylist Harry Josh wrapped sections around his own 2-in-1 Ceramic Marcel Curling Iron.
Josh worked his magic on Johnson again before The Late Show With Seth Meyers on Monday, reminding us how chic a simple pony can be with just the right amount of hair left loose in the front (and gently curled away from the face). Not to mention reminding us that bangs or no bangs aren’t the only options—look what a difference just a little side-swept bang can make when it comes to framing the face and adding interest to pulled-back hair.
Then yesterday, hairstylist Mark Townsend crafted this lovely “twisted and textured” updo on Johnson, employing a brilliantly easy trick for getting bobby pins extra-secure: He coats them with dry shampoo, to give them added grip. Easier yet, he used a formula you can grab at the drugstore: Dove Style & Care Dry Shampoo. He misted plenty of it on Johnson’s hair, too, to achieve aforementioned texture.

How to Be Single premieres next week, which means more Dakota Johnson hair inspiration is coming at you very shortly (she’s sure to look even more incredible for the red carpet). We can’t wait to see what’s next.
