Do Michelle Obama’s Brows Look Less “Angry” Lately?

Supposedly, Michelle Obama’s brows were said to look too “angry” during the campaign and have since been tweaked. The thing is, I’m not sure I see a huge difference between then and now. Do you?

Earlier this week, news broke that Michelle Obama has been traveling with a full-time makeup artist (and is reportedly the first First Lady to ever do so). Her makeup artist, Ingrid Grimes-Miles, is also credited with helping make Ms. Obama’s eyebrows look less “angry” in recent months (she spoke about the topic in this Chicago Tribune article).

Which brings me to my question for you: Is Michelle Obama’s brow-over even noticeable? Some of the before-and-after shots that have run in the press look dramatic, but that could be more because of camera angles or facial expressions than any change in plucking or pencil routine. Let’s do our own analysis, starting with this nice close-up shot of Michelle Obama in February 2007, back at the start of the campaign, when her husband was merely a presidential hopeful. Her brows were pretty au naturale.

Toward the end of the campaign, her brows often appeared much more polished, defined and arched, thanks to pencil/powder. Check out this photo from October ’08.

So those were the supposed angry brows. Compare to this shot from the NATO summit earlier this month. The powder/pencil looks lighter, but do you notice any other significant change?

And wait! In this shot taken just yesterday, her brows are back to a more natural state, almost just like they look in the top photo, no? I suppose they are a bit more precisely tweezed, but we’re not talking a major diff, are we?

So there you have it. My full-scale Michelle Obama brow investigation. After seeing these chronological shots, would you say her brows have undergone an evolution, or not? Do they look less “angry” now, in some way? Or is the media just making a fuss over nothing? Have you evolved your own brows over the years, and if so, how?
