Dustin Hoffman Confesses He Had a Really Hard Time Playing a Not-So-Attractive Woman
Dustin Hoffman famously dressed as a woman for the 1982 comedy Tootsie and while we were all laughing at the results on the big screen it turns out the actor had a very different experience playing the opposite sex.
Before filming began, Dustin had a makeup test to see how he’d look as a woman, to make sure it would be believable and not just look like he was in drag.
When he saw his face on screen, he was shocked that he wasn’t attractive. He asked, “Now make me a beautiful woman.” He was told, “That’s as good as it gets.”

“At that moment I had an epiphany,” he said. “I went home and started crying and talking to my wife.” He realized that if he had met his version of a female at a party, he would never talk to her because she wasn’t traditionally pretty.
“There are too many interesting women I have not had the experience to know in this life because I have been brain washed,” he added. “That was never a comedy for me.”

What do you think of Dustin’s epiphany?
