Emma Stone Is Back to Blond—But With a New Twist

Hair happenings were all over the globe this weekend. While Cara Delevingne continued to make baldness look bomb with tattoo-like head designs on the MTV Movie and TV Awards red carpet, Emma Stone went back to her roots, literally.

The actress showed up with her new, lighter look at the Audi Polo Challenge in London this weekend—bad news for anyone deeply committed to her vibrant red hair. But who isn’t used to her on-again, off-again switches? Stone’s bounced around hair colors from brunette to red to platinum, so it’d take a green hair move to really take us by surprise.

But even within the realm of natural, the color is a switch from Emma’s expected. The shade is a rosy-toned strawberry blond, just a hop/skip away from the strawberry color she wore at the 2017 Oscars. The gradual lightening makes sense, given no one wants to attempt a huge bleach too quickly (aside from everyone who goes platinum overnight, that is), and the result is much warmer than the cool blonds she’s worn in the past. Her blond hair was last spotted on screen in The Amazing Spider-Man, many, many years ago, although she also had a brief blond stretch in 2016. And because it’s one of the first questions that pops up when you Google “Emma Stone,” yep, blond’s her natural color.

Stone’s not on social media, so there’s sadly no behind the scenes footage available. (Sometimes we’re lucky and her colorist Tracey Cunningham spills the tea, but no dice yet.) But if she holds onto the color, signs could point to a new movie featuring her blond look.
