Katy Perry Chopped Her Hair Into an Insanely Cool Bleach-Blond Undercut Pixie
Katy Perry, known haircut chameleon, was at it again last night—the singer put herself in the hands of famed hairstylist Chris McMillan, who chopped all her hair off into a cool undercut pixie that can be styled roughly a million ways. The change has been in the works for a while (she confessed to not feeling ready until now in her Instagram and Snapchat posts), but then, that’s what a little life change will do for you, open you up to new things. And who could blame her? If you ever get in the legendary McMillan’s chair, you let him work his magic on your hair. That is the law. (See also: Miley Cyrus’ pixie.)
She showed off the undercut situation with an action shot unveiling a peekaboo shaved-down area under a longer portion at the top of her head. This means she can wear her hair down with the shaved part covered, in a faux-hawk, or pull up the top and show off the kick-ass close-cropped portion. It’s kind of perfect for the woman who likes options in the beauty department. Her color, meanwhile, stayed a similar cool blond to her most recent platinum hue, courtesy of colorists Justin Anderson and Melinda Miller-Rider.
Luckily for the voyeurs in the audience, she documented the entire process on Snapchat, telling the camera, “This is my first Snap. And guess what I’m going to do? I’m going to cut all my hair off.”

She also jokes to McMillan as he snips the side of her hair, she says, “Let’s redefine beauty” and claims she’s “so happy!” while the look starts to come together.
There’s also a cute moment with her dog Nugget collecting scraps of her hair. Perry tells the furry friend, “You can’t bring me back!”
When Perry asks the hairstylist what he thinks of the look, he says, “I’ve been wanting this since the day I met you. Do you remember?” Her reply: “I remember. I wasn’t ready.”
Playing around to show off all angles of her new ’do, she finishes her Snap story with “Guys, I love it. I feel very free. Now there are other very important things going on in the world. Tune into that.”
She then ends with her inspiration for the chop: Michelle Williams.
Beauty redefined. We’re here for it.
