Makeup Trick Seen On Angelina Jolie: How To Make Liquid Cat-Eye Liner Look Less Stark

When you’re Angelina Jolie, you can draw on a thick liquid-liner cat eye, wear it in broad daylight and look indisputably chic. When you’re not Angelina Jolie, doing this can sometimes make you look … well, overdone. But here’s a trick for softening the look, as seen on Angie herself yesterday.

That’s Angelina at the “Tree of Life” premiere in L.A. yesterday. She stuck with her classic look–thick black eyeliner and neutral pink lips–but the eye makeup was a bit softer than usual. Here’s a closer look.

See the blur of coppery warmth atop the black liquid eyeliner? It looks like her makeup artist blended some pencil liner or eyeshadow there to soften the edges of the black line and play off the lovely color of Angelina’s brunette hair. There’s also an ever-so-faint rim of the same copper color nestled into the roots of her bottom lashes.

I think it’s also key how dramatically the line of black tapers off toward the center of Angelina’s eyes–notice how you can barely even see it anymore at the spot where her lashes thin out in the middle? This is another trick for getting the cat-eye look right.

How about you ladies–do you have any tricks that make liquid liner look a little softer for everyday wear?
