No, Golden Globes: America Ferrera and Gina Rodriguez Are Not the Same Person
How I felt when I watched America Ferrera announce the Golden Globe nominees on Good Morning America this morning: “Wow, that America sure is gorgeous. I can’t wait to catch her new show, Superstore. I’ve missed her on TV.”
How I felt when the Golden Globes urged followers on Twitter to tune in to Gina Rodriguez reading off those names: “Seriously? WTF.”
Yeah, that's America Ferrera not Gina Rodriguez, official #GoldenGlobes Twitter account… pic.twitter.com/Rm3YeW9ywU

There’s no other elegant way to phrase it. WTF. How could someone type out those handles without stopping for a minute—heck, four seconds—to confirm that the brunette beauty with the golden skin was, in fact, the former Ugly Betty actress and not the Golden Globe-winning and newly nominated star of Jane the Virgin? Yes, they’re both Latina. Yes, they’re both outspoken with low tolerance for cultural ignorance. And yes, they’re both amazing talents who have played Latinas on TV. But come on. Was copresenter Chloë Grace Moretz confused for another blond actress? Was Dennis Quaid’s name mixed up with another handsome actor’s? Eh, no. As a journalist, I’m mortified. And as a Latina, I’m deflated. I thought we had earned the respect of a proper name check.
Ladies, we’re so proud of you. Do your thing. We know your names.
