Proof That Khloe Kardashian Has the Most Versatile Haircut Ever

Following her appearance on Live! With Kelly and Michael, everyone has been buzzing about Khloe Kardashian’s haircut. (ICYMI: She told the show hosts she cut hair after visiting Lamar Odom during his hospitalization because she felt like she needed to get rid of negativity in her life.) Totally understandable. What woman hasn’t wanted to lop off all her hair following a traumatic experience? Particularly one that involves a significant other. A good haircut can be a game-changer—literally taking weight off your shoulders in all senses of the phrase.

This also got us noticing the other good-cut indicators her lob has. It doesn’t require a ton of upkeep, it’s short enough to be edgy, but long enough to pull back in a ponytail (always a plus!)—every time Kardashian has left her house since she got the cut in October, it seems as if she’s wearing it a completely new way. If that’s not a cut that helps you feel reinvented, we don’t know what is.

“Khloe’s lob is ideal for someone who loves short hair but still wants the option to wear various styles,” says Mizani global artistic director and hairstylist Cesar Ramirez, who has been working with Kardashian during the press tour for her new book Strong Looks Better Naked. “Lengths between the collarbone and barely grazing the shoulders are best for this.” The blunt cut is just as important. “Minimal layering makes it easier to pull back into a ponytail or even a top-knot,” says Ramirez. “The longer layers help keep the shape flattering—even when styled curly.” If you have fine hair, consider adding shorter layers—which will boost the volume—but for the rest, the long, even layers all around helps give the style its modern shape. Scroll on to check out just how versatile this cut is.

Sleek and Chic

Kardashian takes it into #girlboss territory with her an ultra-sleek, no-nonsense middle part—perfect timing, since she’s kicking off her new show Kocktails with Khloe. It highlights her lived-in hair color and makes it look shinier than usual. We didn’t even think that was possible.

Second-Day Side Part

This has all the hallmarks of second-day hair—some texture, a little body, that tousled look. If we looked like this with our hair simply swept to the side, our Instagram would be littered with selfies. Second-day hair is perfect for the airport (or really, any morning when you’re short on time), and the side part keeps it from looking too disheveled.

Volume Up

It might be the dead of winter but Khloe’s wild, voluminous waves have us dreaming of a quick trip to Tulum. The key to the back-from-the-beach effect is a volumizing mousse, says Ramirez. (We love Bumble and bumble Full Form Thickening Mousse, $30, sephora.com.) He then ran Mizani True Textures Style Refresher Milk ($15, jcpenney.com) through the ends to ensure a smooth finish. A ton of body and volume without the frizz? Sign us up.

Old-School Cool

Kardashian’s loose, brushed-out curls are Old Hollywood meets 2016. The side part gives it a classic femme-fatale vibe, which will never steer you wrong. If you have a date or just want to pull out all the stops for the night, this is it.

Full of Body

The most wear-anywhere style of all, this should be in the Hall of Hair Fame. Between the barely-there waves (which give hair a fuller look) and the super-shiny finish, Khloe’s hair looks healthier than ever—a feat, considering she had to go from dark brunette to this level of golden. To get that sheen, Ramirez added Mizani Thermasmooth Smooth Guard Serum ($25, ulta.com) to hair before blowing it out.

Pinned Ponytail

This isn’t your average pony. Its genius is in the runway-inspired parade of bobby pins in the back (which kicked off a huge Instagram debate). The wet-look effect (created by Ramirez with the help of a little Mizani Defyne Wax, $9, overstock.com) and sharp center part elevate the low pony, keeping it more party-ready than post-yoga.
