Sarah Hyland Just Shut Down Plastic Surgery Rumors in the Best Possible Way
For all the sucky things that 2017 has brought us, one of the silver linings has been celebrities like Jennifer Aniston and Ariel Winter pushing back against the idea that their bodies and choices are up for debate. And now, Sarah Hyland is joining that number: last night, the Modern Family star took to Twitter to shut down a tabloid story speculating she’s had plastic surgery.
The publication, Life & Style, has since updated its piece, but per Hyland’s Twitter, it had published an article with doctors analyzing whether she’s had work done. We’ve all seen some version of this article—a walk through the years of someone’s face, where doctors discuss every inch and subtle change much without any regard that there’s a person attached to those features. Hyland’s response: that’s not going to stand.
THIS MAKES ME SO MAD. to have Drs give their opinion ON MY FACE is absolutely ridiculous and degrading. Fuck off. https://t.co/8GlSIWJcfr

Earlier this year, Hyland revealed that she has kidney dysplasia, a condition that affects her weight and appearance. Potentially referring to that, she posted this note to Twitter yesterday: “I have had the worst medical year of my life, and to create an article surrounding the question of if I’ve had plastic surgery is the MOST insulting thing. Adding insult to injury. You have NO IDEA what I have been through. And I have somewhat addressed these rumors already. People like you are the reason why young girls feel the need to alter their face. MY face has been altered by LIFE SAVING medication. Take your ‘journalism’ and use it for some good. FOR ONCE.”

It looks as if the tabloid then updated its piece, removing the doctors’ speculation.
Hey @Life_and_Style why don't you just delete the article about how different I look over the past 10 yrs instead of deleting "drs" comments pic.twitter.com/HUw8xjQevv

Hyland then had some fun with it: she took off all her makeup, slapped on a face mask, and reclaimed her narrative. We hereby present her solid, beautiful takedown.
Hey @Life_and_Style. Got some work done tonight. Going for a new look… gonna write about this now? pic.twitter.com/fhEpwWNxjZ

But according to Hyland, don’t be concerned. In a Twitter video, she said: “I would like to say, for those who think I’m hurt, or sad, by this article, nuhuh. It’s fine. I expect dumbasses to write dumbass articles. My only thing is, you come for me, I come for you.” And then she patted her sheet mask, and said, “I’m so beautiful right now, God, all my plastic surgery really paid off.”
