This Mesmerizing Beauty Tutorial Shows the Difference Between ‘Instagram Makeup’ and ‘Everyday Makeup’

As soon as you hear the term “Instagram makeup” you know what it means—the flawless skin, exaggerated brows, and expert contouring we usually see from beauty bloggers while scrolling through your social feed. The look has definitely surged thanks to the app’s popularity, and now it’s inspired a cool new tutorial depicting what it looks like next to everyday makeup—on the same face.

“This definitely shows the power of makeup to me,” beauty vlogger Amanda Ensing explains in her video. “I love how makeup can transform your face, give you confidence, be whoever you wanna be, whether it’s Instagram makeup or everyday makeup, you should be able to wear whatever you want when you want, because at the end of the day, it washes off.”

Ensing also touches on people—specifically dudes—who think makeup is misleading or unnatural. “For any guy watching this who thinks makeup is misleading, uh, I’m sorry, if you think my lashes are naturally this big and I naturally have a smoky eye, that’s on you,” she deadpans into the camera.

Smash-cut to Ensing wearing a very Ariana Grande–style headband before getting to work on a useful “everyday makeup” tutorial on one side of her face, using products including the Urban Decay Optical Illusion Primer, the Tarteist Contour Palette, NARS Madly Blush, and the Rimmel Lash Accelerator. She then launches into the dramatic makeup tutorial on the other side of her face, using the Urban Decay Eden Primer, Laura Mercier Powder, Benefit Cosmetics’ Hoola Matte Bronzer, and—of course—the Kylie Candy K Lip Kit.

Both tutorials are works of art—as is her her process in addition to the final product—and she proves that no matter how you do your makeup you’ll look and feel gorgeous.

“I don’t think that one looks better than the other,” she says. “I like the way they both work for different reasons and I think they’re beautiful in their own ways.” #ConfidenceGoals, anyone?
