11 Ways Kendall and Kylie Jenner Are Just Like Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen

When I watched the Jenner girls’ video for their latest PacSun collection, something became crystal clear, so I’m just going to say it: Kendall and Kylie are the millennial version of Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. (To be clear, coming from me, this is literally the highest of compliments.) Everything from the stance (front-facing, hand-holding, powerful) to the statement hair to the just barely different outfits screams Trapper Keeper/Pinterest-inspo ready. Of course, Kendall and Kylie aren’t twins, but just like the Olsens (who are fraternal, BTW), they’re sisters, collaborators, paparazzi-magnets, and best friends. Plus, this is just a really fun game to play. So indulge me for a minute, mkay?

Let’s start with that whole growing up in front of the cameras thing.

Mary-Kate and Ashley made their TV debut as little Michelle Tanner on Full House at only nine months old. Their whole “You got it, dude” shtick opened doors to starring in shows like Two of a Kind and So Little Time. (Side note: MK’s character was named Riley, which rhymes with Kylie). Meanwhile, Kendall and Kylie have had their lives taped since 2007 on Keeping Up With the Kardashians, when they were 12 and 10 respectively. “The whole crew is always at our house, so it’s like a second family. It’s just normal now,” Kylie told Glamour back in 2013 on the set of our Malibu photo shoot.

They’re not opposed to twinning.

And in 2013, Kendall and Kylie strut their stuff in the family’s extravagant 2013 Christmas card. But even when the girls are matching, there are subtle differences. Always. Curls vs. waves, red polish vs. nude polish, and oh, the fascinator possibilities! *

They’re big Fashion Week fixtures.

Aside from Mary-Kate and Ashley’s droolworthy lines The Row and Elizabeth and James (fashion editors have been known to drop everything for even a peek at their collections), the twins have also been known to make the fashion show front-row club. (There they are, below, at J. Mendel in 2011.) Meanwhile, Kendall Jenner has made a name for herself as basically every designer’s go-to (Karl, Diane, Marc…everyone) and Kylie was brother-in-law Kanye West’s party trick at his 2014 Adidas Originals x Kanye West Yeezy Season 1 fashion show.

They’ve been known to host…

Mary-Kate and Ashley hosted SNL back in 2004. And while that is obviously nothing to scoff at, it did mean they had to miss their high school dance. (Don’t worry, Will Forte and Jimmy Fallon danced with the girls in a prom-themed sketch, so it was all good.) And while who’s to say whether or not the Jenner girls will host SNL any time soon, they did host the MuchMusic Video Awards in 2014 and probably had just as many outfit changes as any SNL host.

Their hair has always been a pretty big deal.

Who hasn’t asked for the “Olsen blond” or the “Jenner deep-brown” at least once? Kylie is even capitalizing on her family’s deep hair power (and the letter K) with her own line of hair extensions, Kylie Hair Kouture.

Their dating lives make headlines.

Mary-Kate’s been in the tabloids over her engagement to the much-older Olivier Sarkozy, and Ashley has been linked to the Foxcatcher director Bennett Miller. Kendall Jenner, on the other hand, had a fling with Harry Styles (girls everywhere had serious teen-idol overload) and Kylie has been rumored to be dating the rapper Tyga.
