3 Annoying *Mean Girls* Plot Holes That You Never Noticed (But Are Now So Obvious)

I consider myself a Mean Girls expert. Really, I do! And I have receipts: In 2013 I recited the entire movie in 30 minutes for a video that went viral. As a result, Jonathan Bennett (Aaron Samuels) dubbed me the number one Mean Girls fan. (This is my idea of the Pulitzer Prize, if you wanted a glimpse into my psychology.) What can I say? Some people use their minds for important things like medicine and law; I use mine for retaining arbitrary Regina George quotes. Nothing from this glittery, iconic teen masterpiece gets by me, damn it!

Well, except these three annoying continuity errors. Seriously, how is it that I never realized them? Mean Girls is practically perfect, but these three itty-bitty—but nonetheless maddening—plot holes prove the film’s prop assistants weren’t on their A-games while shooting. From self-cleaning popcorn to magic pants, let’s take a look at three Mean Girls flubs that you won’t be able to un-see.

Ms. Norbury is originally wearing brown pants when Cady bumps into her.

But somehow, magically, her pants turn black in the next scene. (And it’s very unlikely she changed her trousers in front of her students.)

When Cady first crashes Janis and Damian’s movie night, the popcorn spills all over the floor.

Not even two seconds later, though, all of the popcorn is back in the bowl. How?! (Answer: continuity errors.)

Here is the biggest mindfuck: When Cady enters her bedroom during the house party scene, she sets her drink on the middle stack of CDs.

But by the following shot, the drink has migrated to the edge of the table. Witchcraft.

Like I said, none of these continuity errors are huge, but did you ever notice them? And there are (probably) plenty more that we just haven’t discovered yet. Here’s hoping they stay hidden, though: I really don’t want the Internet ruining Mean Girls for me.
