Amy Schumer Has an Epic Response to Trolls Who Think She’s “Too Fat” to Play Barbie
Amy Schumer fans could barely contain their excitement last week when news broke that she’s in talks to play Barbie in a live-action film about the popular doll.Schumer’s comedic skills, acting chops, and body-positive message make her a perfect fit for role. More importantly, Schumer is unapologetic about not abiding by unattainable Hollywood beauty standards, an attitude that’s exactly what Barbie, a figure criticized in the past for enforcing unrealistic body ideals, needs.
But not everyone is as jazzed about the news. Shortly after Deadline broke the story, Twitter trolls came out in droves claiming that Schumer is “too fat” to play Barbie. The comments people hurled at Schumer were despicable, but, unfortunately, not surprising. (2016 was a trash fire of a year, after all.)
Schumer, however, was ready with a lengthy message to Instagram that hit back at her haters hard.
“Is it fat shaming if you know you’re not fat and have zero shame in your game?” Schumer wrote. “I don’t think so. I am strong and proud of how I live my life and say what I mean and fight for what I believe in, and I have a blast doing it with the people I love. Where’s the shame? It’s not there. It’s an illusion.”
The Trainwreck star also wrote her own version of, “Always stay gracious, best revenge is your paper”: “[I’m] a great friend, sister, daughter, and girlfriend,” she wrote. “I’m a badass comic headlining arenas all over the world and making [TV] and movies and writing books where I lay it all out there…” Damn straight, Schumer. Haters are so much easier to deal with when you’re making millions.
But for those of us who aren’t there yet, Schumer has some advice for dealing with bullies.
“We need to laugh at the haters and sympathize with them,” she wrote. “They can scream as loud as they want. We can’t hear them because we are getting shit done.”

Thank God Amy Schumer isn’t letting this ridiculous negativity bring her down. I need her to be Barbie more than I want to marry Tyson Beckford—and I really want to marry Tyson Beckford.
