Bitsie Tulloch Takes Us Behind-the-Scenes of Grimm and Spills Her Favorite Obsessions!

On Grimm, she plays Juliette Silverton. On the acclaimed (yet short-lived) quarterlife, she played Dylan Krieger. And in the Oscar-winning film, The Artist, she played Norma. Needless to say, Bitsie Tulloch is making quite a name for herself, and was kind enough to take Glamour along on her journey–exclusive pics and all!

We caught up with the dynamic actress in between shooting on the Portland set of the NBC suspense-drama series. Tulloch (pronounced Tull-lick) shared her TV faves, the show she wants to be on more than anything (are you listening Andy Cohen?!), and the obsession that rules her closet!

__Congratulations on the season 2 pick up! __ Oh thank you! We’re really excited.

How do you like shooting Grimm in Portland? I really, really like it. I love LA, and I love that most of my friends in LA, but I get along great with the guys on the show. The six of us still go out together as a group probably once or twice a month because we like each other so much, and some of us even live in the same building up here. Portland is a really great city, especially because I’m a shopper and there’s no sales tax! That really adds up so fast, because in California, a $1000 pair of shoes ends up costing another $100.

Any season finale spoilers? I haven’t read the season finale episode, but I just read episode 21, the penultimate episode, and all I can say is Juliette. . something drastic happens to her that makes her thought process to everything change.

I read that you went to Harvard and double majored. That’s true. I never wanted to be an actress really. I sort of caught the bug fairly late. So many people are so intrigued with the glamour and celebrity of acting, and a lot of actors start acting when they are 9 or 10 years old–so young. I started when I was about 24. I was extremely academic, and my plan was to get a Masters in art history, and what I really wanted to do was own my own art gallery. Instead, I had a really rough senior year, double majoring and doing my thesis, and my parents were in the middle of a really messy divorce, so I was burned out by the end, that I decided to take a year off and move to LA. I was dating a guy that lived there and had friends out there, and then one of my girlfriends was scared to go to her acting class because she was so nervous about it, so I was like, ‘oh, it can’t be that bad. I’ll go with you.’ And then of course, she ended up not becoming an actress, and I fell in love and never looked back. As much as I’m sure that people think, ‘oh it happened so quickly for her,’ the funny thing about actors is that you get to a certain level and you’re like, ‘sweet, this is amazing, but ok, now what’s next? What’s the next level?’ I can’t think of anybody that doesn’t think that.

I think for actors, you either have it or you don’t it. And by ‘it,’ I mean the instincts, and the confidence, and the ability to tap into emotions. You can only take so many acting classes. It’s either there or it isn’t. Sometimes it needs work, of course, but I think for the most part, you’re either comfortable on stage or you aren’t. And the biggest thing is the life experience. Absolutely. You’re totally right. My relationship with my parents was extremely complicated, more so than most peoples. It’s one of those things that I was always like, ‘why me? It doesn’t make sense!’ but when I started acting, I was like, ‘oh, it sort of makes sense now that I can pull from these crazy, crazy things that I’ve had to go through my entire life, and use them in a way that’s creative, artistic and cathartic.’

Ok, so let’s talk favorites!

The TV show–aside from Grimm–that I’m obsessed with is: I love the Daily Show, but I really like the Housewives. I’m obsessed with them. I love Andy Cohen! He’s so clever. I’ll be watching his show and in my head I’ll be mentally flirting back with him. I want to go on Watch What Happens Live! I just think he’s the best. I live for him. I could answer a question about any of the Housewives, and I’m not even embarrassed about it. I just find them so highly entertaining. Right now I’m obsessed with the OC and Atlanta.

My DVR is almost full due to this show or movie: The Real Housewives. All of them!

The album I’m most obsessed with is: Stevie Wonder, “Talking Book”

The websites I must visit everyday are: GoFugYourself.com times a billion! The girls are so funny. The dress I wore to the Golden Globes got a well played Bitsie Tulloch, and it was on my birthday and it was the best birthday ever. I just got a well-played by the Fug Girls!

My most surreal Hollywood moment is: Ok, when I was in college–and this was before I became an actress–I was down in Australia with a friend, and I ended up playing this role as R2D2’s girlfriend in a documentary that__George Lucas__ did called R2-D2 Beneath the Dome. I was wondering around the FOX lot a couple weeks after we had wrapped, and Ewan McGregor came up to me, and was like, ‘you’re so good. You’re so effing funny! You’ve gotta do this.’ And I was like, ‘What?!’ That was so surreal. It also feels really surreal because the first movie that I am starring in and also co-produced is premiering at Tribeca [Film Festival] and that’;s kind of surreal too. Between Ed Zwick and Marshall Herskovitz’s quarterlife, and being in a pilot Sarah Jessica Parker produced (Washingtonienne), and Grimm and the Artist, just everything, I feel very lucky. I’m still not at the point where I’m getting offers and stuff. I’m still auditioning, but when I look back, even though I’ve done some cheesy stuff, I don’t regret any of it.

If you could eat one food without gaining weight, it would be: Cheese!

The sports team I’m most obsessed with is: I’m not obsessed with sports, but I got to go with the boys on the show and sit courtside at one of the Portland Trailblazers games, and I usually feel like people have to drag me to stuff, but once I was there, I loved it. On the Super Bowl, I’m screaming at the television, on the verge of tears. I usually pick a team randomly and then get so emotionally involved. Oh, and the Boston Red Sox. That’s my hat I always wear.

The best advice I’ve ever received is: Stop thinking. My best and most influential acting teacher was like, ‘you’re always in your head. Just let it go. Stop thinking and just be [in the moment].’

The career path I secretly want to take is: I’ve always loved bridges, so this is going to be such a nerdy answer, but probably a civil engineer or an architect or something. Portland is great for me because there are so many bridges in this town! When I was little I wanted to be a civil engineer. Not a ballerina, not a doctor, a civil engineer. I was such a nerd.

What quality or characteristic do you admire most about Juliette? That she’s compassionate. She is thoughtful and compassionate, and those are some of the best qualities anybody can have. There’s a lot of strange things going on around her, but knowing what she does know about Nick and his background and his parents having passed away, she’s very forgiving and compassionate about everything. A lot of fans always ask me, ‘is she niaive? How can she not know?’ but she’s actually very intelligent, and they have been dating for three years, and they’re very much in love, and she’s letting him take his time. Will things come to a head to the point where she can’t take it anymore? Probably, but she’s been very understanding and caring and thoughtful with him.

What quality do you wish you could change about Juliette? It’s almost the same thing. I kind of wish that sometimes she would ask more questions and be a little more confrontational–you know, get in his face a little bit. That’s something I, as Bitsie, would never deal with. On the first day I’d be like, ‘dude, you’re acting really weird, what’s going on?’

The vacation spot I’m most obsessed with is: Spain. I love Spain. It’s my favorite country that I’ve been to and I’ve traveled quite a bit. I’ve been really fortunate as an adult to have been to a lot of interesting places like Egypt and China. I love to travel, but going back to Spain, because I speak Spanish, is just my favorite. I love Barcelona. I loooove Seville. Madrid. Everything’s great. It’s beautiful there.

The item in my closet I’m most obsessed with is: I have a pair of Pierre Hardy heels that I got a photo shoot. To me, they are like little pieces of art. I love them!

My girl crush is:Lena Dunham. She’s starring in and directing the new HBO show, Girls. And my best friend because she’s super talented.

I could go bankrupt buying: shoes! Especially my Pierre Hardy boots and heels!

The charity I’m most passionate about is: I’ve been a representative of a charity called Corazon de Vida. For about six or seven years now, they’ve supported about 14 oprhaniges in Tijuana. It’s a really wonderful way for people that are new to volunteering to get involved. You can take a daytrip to TJ, and you bus down with other volunteers on a nice bus, and you bring supplies and play with the kids for the rest of the day, and then you head back up to the OC or LA or wherever your point of origin was, but it’s a great, great organization.

An all NEW episode of Grimm airs tonight on NBC at 9/8c. Don’t miss it!
