Caitriona Balfe From ‘Outlander’ Is Engaged
Outlander fans, we have some exciting news. No, we don’t know yet when the fourth season is premiering, but we do know this: Caitriona Balfe, who plays Claire Fraser on the hit Starz series, is engaged to boyfriend Tony McGill. People magazine confirmed this news Sunday night at the 2018 Golden Globe Awards.
“It happened over the break; I’m very happy,” Balfe told People on the red carpet before the event.
She also debuted her engagement ring at the Globes. Check it out for yourself, below—it’s stunning.
McGill and Balfe have been dating for about two years, though they’ve kept their relationship private for the most part. The two were last photographed together at the 2017 Oscar Wilde Awards in February, and McGill also went with Balfe to Jodie Foster’s Hollywood Star ceremony two years ago.
Word first got out that these two were seeing each other in January 2015, when a friend posted an Instagram video of Balfe sitting on McGill’s lap and playing a recorder. “@caitrionabalfe local entertainment,” the caption reads.

This has been quite the year for Balfe. Her engagement comes off the heels of a very successful third season of Outlander, which earned her a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Television Series, Drama. Outlander is wildly popular for its sex scenes, though Balfe told Glamour last year the show isn’t as steamy as it seems.
“It’s funny, because there’s probably less sex in our show than people think,” she said. “It’s just when we do it, we try to empower these two characters to represent this metaphysical and all-encompassing love, so we get branded as ‘It’s so sexy!’ But if you look at the amount of episodes that it features in, it’s not in every single one.”
Congratulations to Balfe and McGill. We’re keeping our fingers crossed for a Scotland wedding. Maybe Sam Heughan can officiate as Jamie Fraser.
