Carrie Underwood Reveals She Severely Injured Her Face and Needed Over 40 Stitches

Back in November Carrie Underwood revealed she broke her wrist after accidentally falling on the steps outside her home. The injury caused the singer to cancel her performance at the Country Rising benefit show on November 12; even still, though, she seemed in good spirits. “I just wanted let everyone know that I’m doing great. Had surgery on my wrist yesterday & all went well…even though I’ll be setting off airport metal detectors from now on,” she tweeted on November 15.

But there’s more to the story. People magazine reports Underwood wrote a blog post Sunday (December 31) to her fan club members, revealing it wasn’t just her wrist injured in the accident: She also severely cut her face.

“There is also another part of the story that I haven’t been ready to talk about since I have still been living it and there has been much uncertainty as to how things will end up,” she wrote, according to People. “It’s crazy how a freak random accident can change your life.”

Underwood continued, “In addition to breaking my wrist, I somehow managed to injure my face as well.” The country star didn’t reveal much else, but she did say the face injury required her to get “between 40 and 50 stitches.” “I’ll spare you the gruesome details,” she wrote.

It’s been seven weeks since the incident, and Underwood says she’s “not quite looking the same.” That being said, she has a positive outlook. “I honestly don’t know how things are going to end up but I do know this: I am grateful,” she wrote. “I am grateful that it wasn’t much, much worse. And I am grateful for the people in my life that have been there every step of the way.”
