Chelsea Kane On Her Baby Daddy Co-Stars, Full House Obsession, and the Girls Character She Loves–and Loathes!

You may remember Chelsea Kane from Bratz, or even Dancing with the Stars, but it’s ABC Family sitcom*Baby Daddy* that is getting the petite blonde tons of buzz for her portrayal as Riley Perrin. We caught up with the super adorable 23-year-old native from Phoenix to talk Daddy co-stars, working with a Full House alum, and the Girls character she can’t decide if she loves or loathes!

Glamour: Baby Daddy is such a cute, light-hearted comedy, but do you think it glamorizes being a young, single parent because all of you guys are a team and have fun while juggling this huge responsibility?

Chelsea Kane: I think if we were going to worry about teen pregnancy being glamorized, we should worry about shows like Teen Mom. If people are going to want to have children at a young age because they see it on TV, I think that depends on the type of person you’re dealing with. I feel with Baby Daddy, it’s nice that there’s a light-heartedness to it, as most sitcoms are, and can poke fun at situations that happen to many of us in our lives. So, I don’t think that it makes it glamorous. I think it’s a really touching show showing all of us coming together and being a family by choice and relying on each other.

Glamour: On a lighter note, for those fans that want to see you wind up with one of the guys, who would you like it to be? Danny or Ben? Or someone else?

Chelsea: I’m so torn. I love the boys equally, on screen and off. It’s so hard. I mean, on paper of course Danny is the perfect man. He’s a professional sports player, he’s a sweetheart and has been in love with her since high school–even when she was 100 lbs. overweight. So, that’s every girl’s dreams. But of course, Riley, like any girl, always goes back to the guy that isn’t good for her and is going to walk all over her. And that’s Ben. But Ben has great qualities, too. He’s a sweetheart, he’s funny. I think the fact that he’s trying to step up to the plate and raise this little girl is very attractive to Riley. I change my mind episode to episode on who I want Riley to be with, which hopefully keeps fans interested in the show!

Glamour: In real life, would you ever seriously date a single dad at your age?

Chelsea: Gosh, that’s such a hard question to think of answering. I think it would all depend on the situation. The show has been a crash course in parenting for me, and it’s a very interesting mix of being in my 20s, and like, Aww, this feels so good, I love holding a baby!’ but at the same time, it’s a completely unfair introduction to having children because the twins that play the baby on the show are not normal! They are the happiest little girls, and it’s very rare they throw a tantrum or get frustrated. And even when they do, I get to hand them over to a mom. So, I’m sure that when I do become a mom, I’m going to be surprised with the extra work that I’ve got cut out for me. I don’t know if I could date a single dad. It would depend on the guy. You would be such a big influence on that child’s life, and it’s a huge responsibility. I’m still figuring it out!

Glamour: OK, we have to talk about the fact that__Tahj Mowry__, who plays Tucker on the show, got his start playing Teddy, Michelle Tanner’s best friend on Full House. Did you ever watch the show, and do you remember him from it?

Chelsea: I totally remember him from Full House as Teddy! I was so excited to first meet him because he was a huge part of my television life! The funniest thing is that another friend of mine, James Lafferty, who is on One Tree Hill–I went over to his house the day I got the job, and he had this old picture of him and Tahj together at age 6 playing on the Full House basketball team, and it’s so scary how small the world is!

Glamour: Now all you need to do is get the Olsen twins to come on!

Chelsea: Haha, except we already have scene-stealing twins on our show! I’m sure they’ll be making millions and cashing in on their 18th birthday!

The Obsessed Q&A:

The TV show—aside from Baby Daddy—that I’m obsessed with is: Girls or Extreme Couponing. As for Girls, I just want more. I can’t decide if Adam is hilarious or if I want to punch him in the face!

The movie that I know every word to is: Almost Famous.

My DVR is almost full from: South Park.

The reality show I’m most addicted to is: Gotta go with Extreme Couponing! These women will go to the grocery store and leave with $2000 worth of merchandise. They walk out of there without paying a cent and don’t even bring their wallet!

If I could perform on stage with any musical act or performer, it would be:Sugar Ray, just to fulfill my childhood dream of singing with__Mark McGrath__. I love “Every Morning.” I’ve never met him, but we go to the same salon, so we’ll be sitting in foils next to each other, but that’s the not the way I want him to remember me! I just can’t have my first impression be when I look like that!

If I could eat any food without gaining weight, it would be: Probably Ben & Jerry’s Karamel Sutra. Yeah, that or French toast!

I could go bankrupt from buying: Shoes or sunglasses because I lose them or get over them the minute I walk out of the store.

When I was younger, the award I most wanted to win was: An Academy Award. My parents met at an Oscar party, so those awards have always been a big deal for our family.

My most surreal Hollywood moment is: My first job working on the Bratz movie. They cast Jon Voight to play my Dad, so Jon asked me to come over to his office to talk about the characters. At the end of the two-hour meeting, he wrote down his home number and told me to call him if I had any ideas about the character. I just thought that was hilarious because that was my first job, and like, I was going to give Jon Voight acting ideas! That’s my most surreal moment.
