Definitive Proof Blair Waldorf, Brooke Davis, and Summer Roberts Are Basically the Same Person
Gossip Girl, The O.C., and One Tree Hill are three of the most iconic teen dramas of all time. However, if you’ve seen only one of these, don’t worry: You’ve basically seen them all—because all three shows have the exact same lead character.
Well, not literally the same. But the similarities between Gossip Girl‘s Blair Waldorf, One Tree Hill‘s Brooke Davis, and The O.C.‘s Summer Roberts are more than eerie. They look the same, talk the same, and even scheme the same. If they weren’t from three different parts of the country, we’d think they were related.
Don’t believe us? These 11 points will change your mind and have you seeing double—make that triple.
Let’s get their superficial similarities out of the way, shall we? All three of these girls have brown hair.
ILLUMINATI.
And they are the ~most popular~ people at their respective high schools.
Blair Waldorf rules Constance Billard in New York City with a headband and an iron fist, Brooke Davis is the head cheerleader at Tree Hill High School, and Summer Roberts is practically the queen of Orange County.
They all also have brown eyes.
Well, Brooke has hazel eyes, which is basically half-brown, so it counts. (As a hazel-eyed person, I say it counts!)
Now on to the less superficial (but still pretty superficial): They all know how to dish out top-quality shade.
Blair’s eye rolls will stop your heart, Brooke’s one-liners can knock the wind out of you, and all Summer has to say is “ew” for you to shake in your boots.
Speaking of which, they each love a good scheme.
Whether it’s running Georgia Sparks out of town, sabotaging Rachel the new cheerleader, or figuring out what’s happening between the dean and Taylor Townsend, Blair, Brooke, and Summer know how to get to the bottom of things better than the CIA.
But don’t get it twisted: None of them are actually mean, despite what their exteriors and first impressions suggest.
They’re just teenagers desperate for love. Nothing to see here except angst—super-glam, cool-girl angst. I wish I had fancy angst.
All three have (blond) best friends who routinely upstage them.
And not just upstage: Their friends—Serena (Gossip Girl), Peyton (One Tree Hill), and Marissa (The O.C.)—constantly exaggerate their champagne problems and play the victim, causing everyone to fawn over them. That, or they just film themselves sulking in their bedrooms. (Looking at you, Peyton.)
Gossip Girl, One Tree Hill, and The O.C. all begin by prioritizing romantic couples that don’t include Blair, Brooke, or Summer—but, by the end, we’re only invested in their relationships.
Allow me to explain. Gossip Girl originally made us think Serena and Dan were the two to follow. Similarly, The O.C. made Marissa and Ryan a big deal, and One Tree Hill heavily dramatized Nathan and Peyton’s relationship in the pilot (even though they eventually break up). But by the time you’re in the thick of these shows, you don’t care about Serena’s, Marissa’s, or Peyton’s boy problems. You care only about Blair and Chuck; Summer and Seth; and Brooke and Lucas. (OK, you also care about Nathan and Haley on One Tree Hill, but they’re so perfect and pure, so just let them live.)
And now for some business connections: Gossip Girl and One Tree Hill were both on The CW. Plus, the peeps who created Gossip Girl also created The O.C.
Essentially, all of these shows have the same DNA—hence the reason the same brunette archetype lives in each one.
And some IRL connections too: Leighton Meester (Blair on GG) is married to Adam Brody (Seth on The O.C.), which connects the two shows for life.
But this is the smoking gun: Rachel Bilson (Summer) and Sophia Bush (Brooke) took this photo together one time.
Coincidence? I think not.
So there you have it: hard evidence that Blair, Brooke, and Summer are one and the same. And, no, this isn’t the Twilight Zone: It’s teen TV (way more treacherous).
