Here’s When Princess Diana Will Make Her Entrance on Netflix’s “The Crown”

Netflix gave us the gift of The Crown this year—and let’s be honest, we can never get enough of the British royals. Based on the life of Queen Elizabeth II, the show gave us the glimpse of royal life we’ve always dreamed of in the studio’s hyped-up (and most expensive) new series. Even though we binged all 10 episodes in a day week, we’ve managed to take comfort in the fact that more about the life of the iconic Queen Mother is on the way.

Six seasons, each covering a different decade of the queen’s rule, are reportedly in the works—and yes, that means portrayals of many familiar royal faces are in our futures. One of the most hotly anticipated is that of the beloved Princess Diana. And even though there’s still quite a few years to go before we reach the the icon’s time, we won’t be waiting quite as long as we expected.

In a new interview with People, The Crown‘s creator and writer, Peter Morgan, said that Princess Diana will be introduced in the series as early as season three and will be a major player in seasons four and five.

Before you get too excited, there’s still season two to get through before Diana makes her grand entrance. Morgan said the next installment will roughly cover the years 1957 through 1964, “We start to focus on Charles as a young boy and his education, and on Philip and his back story,” he explained. It’s therefore likely that we’ll get our first look at teenaged Diana toward the end of season three, which we assume will take place in the ’70s, since she and Prince Charles met in 1977.

Season two of The Crown is expected to hit Netflix in late 2017, which means we have at least a couple years to place our bets on which actress will transform into the famed Princess of Wales.
