Kate Middleton’s Photos of Princess Charlotte on Her First Day of School Are Too Much

When it comes to newsy bits about Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge, they usually center around cute moments with her kids, her fashion (and how fast items she wears sell out), and her philanthropic endeavors as a royal. But one side of Kate we don’t see as often are her skills as a photographer—until now, that is. Kensington Palace just released two photos of Princess Charlotte that Kate took, and they’re as adorable as you’d expect.

“The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are very pleased to share two photographs of Princess Charlotte at Kensington Palace this morning,” the palace captioned the photos. “The images were taken by The Duchess shortly before Princess Charlotte left for her first day of nursery at the Willcocks Nursery School.”

Charlotte is starting nursery school at two years old, and the tuition at this place is literally as much as many people’s salaries: £14,550, which works out to about $19,750. The vibe at Willcocks Nursery School seems to be different from Prince George’s Montessori school that he attended while Will and Kate were living in Norfolk, which was more economically diverse and cost far less. Now that Kate’s pregnant, however, the family has moved back to Kensington Palace.

For her first day, Charlotte is stepping out in a crimson wool coat and matching Mary Janes, a pink scarf, and a big smile on her face. Take a look:

One thing that the photos show is Kate’s love for Charlotte. As one critic points out, Kate isn’t a professional photographer (though other family portraits have earned her membership in the Royal Photographic Society). Instead, the pictures she takes are so good because “she excels at photography in the only way most of us all ever can: by looking at what she loves.” Beautiful, no?
