Kendall Jenner Just Announced She Has a Huge Change Coming in 2018

While most Kardashian/Jenner fans spent the holidays refreshing the Twitter feeds of Kylie Jenner/Kim Kardashian/Kris Jenner waiting for the widely expected confirmation of Kylie’s reported pregnancy, they may have missed an announcement from the relatively quiet Kendall Jenner. And it’s a pretty huge change for her 2018: She shared on December 26 that she’ll be scaling back her digital presence in a major way this coming year: she’s walking away from her app.

Many of the KarJenners have their own apps and websites that are available to fans—it’s like an exclusive way of getting glimpses of their lives (which is kinda what they’ve built their empire on). Kendall’s used hers in the past to share her life as a model, as well as beauty and fashion content. But in a message to fans posted on her website (and spotted by People) on Tuesday, she wrote, “As I look ahead to the next year, my goals and priorities are changing. I’ve had an incredible 2+ years connecting with all of you, but I’ve made the difficult decision to no longer update my app in 2018. I hope you’ve enjoyed this journey as much as I have, and ma looking forward to sharing the next chapter with you. Love, Kendall.”

Plenty of celebrities—and lots of us normals, too—go on social media detoxes at the start of the new year. It’s healthy; it’s an opportunity to focus on things that are actually happening in the real world; and it’s a good way to set aside time to focus inward on goals and resolutions for the year ahead. Even Kendall’s sis Kim, probably the most famous in the family for her social media queendom, has had her own struggles with constantly feeling like she has to be on social media. Kendall’s done detoxes like this before, too: Last November, she deleted her Instagram—which is a pretty huge deal for a model.

“I felt like—I just wanted a little bit of a break,” she explained on the Ellen DeGeneres Show at the time. “I’m always on it. I feel—I would wake up in the morning, and I would look at it first thing. I would go to bed, and it was the last thing that I would look at. It just, I felt a little too dependent on it.”

The rest of Kendall’s website, KendallJ.com, has been deactivated already, so she’s gotten a jump start on her plan. And it might just be the best thing for her: As People points out, recent teasers for Keeping Up With the Kardashians have hinted at her struggle with anxiety—so here’s hoping this reduces a little of the stress and pressure on her and paves way for a healthier and happier 2018.
