Kendall Jenner has been killing the Instagram game for quite some time now. (Seriously, who could forget the heart hair that launched a thousand imitators?) Which is why the world was rocked by the news that leading Instagram artist Jenner had deleted her account without warning on Sunday.
Now it seems while the Internet was in panic mode, Jenner was completely oblivious. The model revealed on The Ellen DeGeneres Show that she thought deleting her account would be NBD.
“It’s so crazy to me that it even became huge news like that,” she told DeGeneres. “Like, I have no idea how that—I guess I didn’t expect it. But I also took my Twitter off my phone. Like, I didn’t delete my Twitter entirely, but I took the app off my phone. So I had no idea anyone was even talking about it. I honestly didn’t think anyone would care. Yeah, and my friends kept texting me and my family members, and I was like, ‘How does everyone know?’ And they started sending me links to like CNN and all these things, and I was like, ‘Why is this even this big of a deal?'”
But why delete it in the first place, Kendall? Luckily, Ellen was on hand to ask the question on all our minds. Jenner’s response? “I don’t know, I just wanted to detox. I felt like—I just wanted a little bit of a break. I’m always on it. I feel—I would wake up in the morning, and I would look at it first thing. I would go to bed, and it was the last thing that I would look at. It just, I felt a little too dependent on it. I kind of wanted to take a minute; it’s a detox. I’ll be back! I’ll come back.”
Did you hear that? It’s the sound of a worldwide sigh of relief, now that we’ve been assured this is just a temporary Instagram time out. Plus, we totally get the desire to take a step back from the constant activity on social media. Though Jenner admitted to already having some Insta “withdrawals,” she also said that being disconnected is “kind of a nice, refreshing feeling.”
“I’m away from my phone so much more,” Jenner said. “You start to engage in like real life, and you have to deal with real people right in front of you. So it’s kind of really nice to be away from it, even if it’s just Instagram.”
Well, you know what they say: “Absence makes the heart (hair) grow fonder.” Hear Jenner’s explanation for yourself in the clip, below:
