Real talk: I fell hard for Shane West when I first saw A Walk to Remember. To me, he was perfect: a bad boy turned angel who made telescopes for Mandy Moore. Please tell me how you can top that.
Apparently, Moore agrees with me—and the rest of the adolescent population from 2002. In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Moore says she found West irresistible—both on- and offscreen—while shooting A Walk to Remember. No, no, Mandy Moore and Shane West never dated. (She was a teenager at the time, y’all!) However, Moore did reveal that “a part” of her fell in love with West while they were shooting the movie. Um, can you blame her? Just watching him on a crappy TV in 2004 was enough to hypnotize me! Imagine being a teenager and hanging out with West in real life. (Cue “Kiss Me” by Sixpence None the Richer.)
“Shane was so cool,” Moore tells EW in the interview, which commemorates the 15-year anniversary of A Walk to Remember. “Everything about him—the way he dressed, the little cigarettes that he smoked, and the music he listened to. He was the character to me, and there was definitely a part of me that absolutely fell in love with him. I don’t know if I could discern the difference between him and the character at that point in time because, again, it was my first experience doing anything like this, and I was a 16-year-old, impressionable girl. I was just so caught up in the moment and the experience.”
To be honest, this sounds more like infatuation than love. However, who can tell the difference at 16 years old? Either way, this tidbit is so darn cute and explains why Moore and West were magnetic in the film. The OG #RelationshipGoals, am I right?! (’K, I need to calm down.)
Actually, on second thought, I don’t. Excuse me while I go watch A Walk to Remember on repeat for the next 11 months.
