Milo Ventimiglia Knows Who Isn’t the Father of Rory’s Baby on ‘Gilmore Girls’

Well, it looks like Milo Ventimiglia’s maddening Gilmore Girls theory is actually partly right. The actor confirmed this week that his character, Jess, is definitely not the father of Rory Gilmore’s baby — and although it’s helpful to have names to cross off the list of Rory’s possible baby daddies, it’s still sad that lovable bad boy Jess was the first official no.

During a Gotham-themed panel at the Heroes & Villains Fan Fest in London last weekend, Ventimiglia was asked whether he would play Jess in another Gilmore Girls revival — which is still, unfortunately, just a rumor at this point — and he gave this somewhat disheartening answer, according to Movie Pilot: “It was a great time. Jess was a fun character, but I always remind people that it was 16 years ago in the past. I’m very happy that fans and the audience got those last four episodes. They should be happy with that.” Right before the subject switched back to Gotham, on which Ventimiglia guest-starred, he added, “Just so you know, it’s not Jess’ kid” — and then moved on as if he hadn’t just dropped a major bombshell.

Ventimiglia also somewhat sassily deflected the attention he was receiving for Gilmore Girls later on at the Fan Fest, saying, “I’m so happy we gave the fans more episodes of Gilmore Girls, but I’m more happy for the second season of This Is Us,” according to the convention’s official Facebook page. Let’s be honest: This Is Us is fantastic, but there will always be a special place in our hearts for Gilmore Girls, and Milo needs to accept that already.

Perhaps the most infuriating part of this whole thing is that it partially fits into Ventimiglia’s devastating theory that none of Rory’s iconic boyfriends are the father of her child. Earlier this year, at the Golden Globes, Variety asked Ventimiglia who he thought the baby daddy was and he said, “I don’t think it’s any of the three guys at all. I haven’t really sat around and thought about it [and] wondered who it was. I’ll be as surprised as anyone else is.” Ugh, but it can not be the Wookiee. Right?
