Now Chrissy Teigen and John Legend Are Involved In the Kimye-Trump Drama
If you thought the Kim Kardashian-Kanye West-Donald Trump drama couldn’t get any messier, then strap yourself in—because Chrissy Teigen and John Legend just got involved.
First, a quick refresher on yesterday’s events. West—for unknown reasons—started tweeting positive things about Trump, which ticked off the entire Internet. Kardashian came to his defense, saying her husband has the right to say what he wants even if people don’t agree with him. Critics were also calling West mentally “unstable”—because of both his Trump tweets and earlier messages about Yeezy—and that pissed off Kardashian, too. “Mental Health is no joke and the media needs to stop spitting that out so casually. Bottom line,” she wrote on Twitter.
Everything was calm for a few hours, and then something truly random happened on Thursday (April 26). West posted screenshots of messages Legend sent him, urging him to reconsider his pro-Trump stances. He presented their text exchange without comment:
Legend: Hey it’s JL. I hope you’ll reconsider aligning yourself with Trump. You’re way too powerful and influential to endorse who he is and what he stands for. As you know, what you say really means something to your fans. They are loyal to you and respect your opinion. So many people who love you feel so betrayed right now because they know the harm that Trump’s policies cause, especially to people of color. Don’t let this be part of your legacy. You’re the greatest artist of our generation.
West: I love you John and I appreciate your thoughts. You bringing up my fans or my legacy is a tactic based on fear used to manipulate my free thought.

Yes, people: Kanye West literally said that John Legend—of Jesus Christ Superstar fame—was using fear tactics to “manipulate” his free thought.
West then explained the text exchange a little further on Twitter. “I tweeted the John text to show that there are people around me that disagree with me and voice their opinion. I respect everyone’s opinion but I stand my ground,” he wrote. “If you feel something don’t let peer pressure manipulate you.”

There doesn’t seem to be any bad blood between West and Legend, though. The Life of Pablo rapper posted the rest of their conversation, which was pleasant—and ended with Legend asking West to plug his new single. Here’s their exchange:
Legend: Think freely. Think with empathy and context too. Your words and actions have consequences. Much love. And since you’re posting texts, let me add that I have a new single out haha.
West: Haha. I love you John.

“I really appreciate this dialogue with John Legend because I’m actually very empathetic,” West added in another tweet. “Im still the kid from the telethon. I feel when people think of MAGA they don’t think of empathy…This is year one. We can’t ad empathy to MAGA by hating. We can only ad empathy with love and time and truly hearing all sides.”

West hilariously stayed true to his word, too, and told the world about Legend’s new song.

And that’s when Teigen jumped in with her hot take on Legend/West’s tweeting. “This is the most elaborate and complex google pixel phone ad I have ever seen,” she wrote, before directly asking Kardashian if they’re still on for their Friday night dinner. A valid concern, TBH.
“Yes but maybe no phones,” Kardashian jokingly replied. Again, valid. Cell phones are exactly why you’re here right now, knee-deep in this nonsense.

If you’re wondering why Teigen isn’t saying more about this sitch, it’s because she knows Kardashian and West personally and doesn’t want to cause waves by spilling more tea.
“Everyone keeps asking me to comment on shit,” she wrote. “Comment on psycho Tami Lasagna, whom I refuse to give the joy to, say something about RHOA, speak up about kanye. When it comes to people we know, we DO speak up. To THEM. not on Twitter. And sometimes, I guess it makes it to Twitter.”

“Makes it to Twitter” is a hilarious understatement at this stage of the game. Teigen barely tweeted about this insanity, and it’s still blowing up the Internet. Ahh, 2018!
