Rico Rodriguez and Nolan Gould Spill About the Modern Family Secret That Had Them Stunned (and Sofia Vergara’s On-Screen Pregnancy!)

Who else was shocked when Gloria (Sofia Vergara) announced she was preggers on the season finale of Modern Family? I for sure thought it was going to be Cam and Mitch bringing home a bundle of joy, but you gotta love how the writers threw us for a Friends-style OMG loop!

I ran into Rico Rodriguez (Manny) and Nolan Gould (Luke) on the red carpet at last night’s Young Hollywood Awards, and both couldn’t wait to talk about the big changes ahead in season four! Check it out!

RICO RODRIGUEZ (Manny)

Glamour: What a big shocker in the finale that Gloria is pregnant!

Rico Rodriguez: I know! I didn’t know about it! It was a surprise! And I was there when she was filming it! But I guess they hid it from everybody.

Glamour: So are you excited for this new twist? Because we all thought it was going to be Cam and Mitch getting a little one in the finale.

Rico: I really am. It’s going to open a lot of doors for the show with Gloria being pregnant.

Glamour: Who do you want this new baby to take after? Jay or Gloria, or even Manny?!

Rico: I’d probably want him to take after Manny so I can teach him how to make espressos! Make coffee, how to dress properly, how to write to girls.

Glamour: Ok, now you keep saying him,’ so are you giving away something we aren’t supposed to know?

Rico: Oh no! No, I just always say him, even if it’s a girl. Like with a dog, I’ll always call it a him even if it’s a girl dog.

NOLAN GOULD (Luke)

Glamour: I was just talking to Rico about the bombshell that was dropped in the finale! He says he didn’t know! Did you know, and what do you think about it?

Nolan Gould: No, I didn’t know! It was very secretive. None of the cast knew except for Gloria [Sofia]. So when I was watching it, I was like, woah!’ They secretly had a couple writers write it… they snuck out with like one camera guy, one sound guy, and shot it. It took us all by surprise! Definitely we’re going to pick up right where we left off when the new season starts. And we’ll learn if Mitch and Cam will get a baby. We’ll figure it all out. I want to know because I don’t know!

Glamour: Do you think Luke will want to babysit for this new baby?

Nolan: No! Well, you know what, I don’t think Luke will be threatened by the new arrival because we had that episode where me and Manny took the car, and Luke’;s a big boy now and doesn’t need to be the baby of the family.

Glamour: Would you like Gloria and Jay’s baby to be a boy or a girl?

Nolan: Well, Aubrey [Lily] is a girl, so I think it would be cool for it to be a boy so me and Rico could be its mentors! Teach him how to be an awesome, tough boy!
