Girl Code on the midnight kiss:

Carly: Just grab someone and do it! As long as he doesn’t have a girlfriend… In the beginning of the party, plant the seed and flirt a little bit with whoever you think is cute—and then, by the end of the night when everybody’s coupled up, you have a few options.

Charlamagne: The New Year’s kiss is definitely a do if you are already with your true significant other. I think in 2013 it’s just too dangerous to be having New Year’s kisses with random strangers. You don’t want a cold sore on your lip because that’s not a good way to bring in the new year! But if there’s a guy that you’re interested in, go for it! Just make sure he’s interested in you because the last thing you want to do is walk up on a random stranger and try to kiss them.

Girl Code on going out with friends or a date?

Carly: It’s good either way. With a group of friends, you’ll definitely have fun and a lot of memories. If you’re just doing it with your boyfriend or your girlfriend, I think that’s also really special too. I don’t think one of them is better than the other. Both are a lot of fun.

Charlamagne: Definitely good to go with a group of friends because somebody has to be responsible. You don’t want to be the girl that’s just there with her guy—and then you get drunk and have to throw up in the bathroom, and the guy can’t go in there to hold your hair for you.

Girl Code on what to wear:

Carly: Always have more comfortable shoes in your bag because you don’t want to be walking around wherever you are barefoot. We’ve all done it. We’ve all had those low moments, but you don’t want to do it. Don’t wear anything too short. Don’t dress too—make sure you have enough clothes on. There’s a few words I want to say. Especially if it’s cold you, you look bad if you look like you’re freezing. You’re hunched over, you’re shivering, it’s cold out, you can’t walk, your legs are out—it’s never good. As for the dress, I think New Year’s Eve is sparkle city. You should do as many sparkles as you can. If your dress doesn’t have sparkles on it, you need to be covered in sparkles—put sparkles on your face, in your hair, in your eyebrows, on your knees, I don’t care, but everything needs to be covered in sparkles.

Charlamagne: If you’re in Miami or L.A. or somewhere warm, of course we want to see you in a nice, sexy dress. But if you’re someplace where it’s always cold, we want to see you warm. I hate seeing girls that are trying to look way too cute when we know you’re cold. It’s impossible to be cute and cold—you have to be one or the other.

Girl Code on drinking:

Carly: So, first of all, don’t get too drunk if you’re going to drink. Make sure you’re safe when you’re out and get home safe. Don’t drive or anything like that. I think the worst part of New Year’s Eve is the next day. The best way to deal with the hangover is sleep as much as you can, wake up, take a shower, eat something with a lot of carbs, greasy grilled cheese, fries, whatever you want. And drink some tomato juice—that always helps me. That’s the secret!

Carlamagne: Have as many drinks as possible, but do it responsibly. And have a driver.

And, finally, their idea of the perfect New Year’s Eve:

Carly: Being surrounded by your friends, family, and people you love. Have fun, be safe, and wear a lot of sparkle.

Charlamagne: Be out with a group of good people. You want to bring in the new year with the best energy around you. You don’t want to bring in the new year with anybody you’ve got any side-eye or negative thoughts about. They always say whatever you’re doing at midnight on New Year’s Eve is what you’re gonna be doing for the rest of the year, so you want to bring it in with positive energy and positive people.

How are you spending your New Year’s Eve? Don’t forget to catch Carly and Charlamagne on Girl Code Presents: New Year’s Code, starting at 10 P.M. ET/PT on December 31!
