The Surprising Way Miley Cyrus Stayed on Liam Hemsworth’s Mind During Their Breakup
One of the most interesting things about Miley Cyrus’ Younger Now era is how open she’s been about her fiancé, Liam Hemsworth. She straight-up admitted that her first single, “Malibu,” is about him; plus, she’s talked candidly about their breakup and future marriage plans on several occasions. Throw in the fact they’re always posting about each other on Instagram, and you have one of the most transparent celebrity relationships in pop culture.
And yet there’s still so much we don’t know. What do they talk about? Does Hemsworth listen to “Can’t Be Tamed” on repeat? Has Cyrus ever seen Cut Bank, that random 2014 movie Hemsworth made with Billy Bob Thornton and John Malkovich? These are questions fans desperately need answered.
Another theory they want debunked: Did Hemsworth ever move into one of Cyrus’ old homes without knowing it was hers? OK, maybe no one’s ever asked that, but get this: It actually happened.
In a new interview with Howard Stern, Cyrus reveals that, during their breakup, Hemsworth bought the house where she recorded her first album, but he didn’t know that at the time.
“When Liam—he’s my boyfriend now—broke up for a minute, he wanted to get away from me, he wanted to go to Malibu and bought this house,” Cyrus said. “He didn’t know it was the house I recorded my first album [Breakout] in. The person [selling the house] hid all the plaques in the garage so he would still buy the house. So then he went to move in, and he was like, ‘F-ck, I cannot get away, this bitch is all over my f-cking house!'”
Welp, that’s certainly one way to make sure your ex doesn’t forget you during a split. The wildest part about this story, though, is that they now live in this house together. “So now that we’re back together, my song ‘Malibu’ is about the house that I live in, in Malibu, which is where I recorded my first album,” she said. Full circle!
Cyrus called Hemsworth the “most normal” part of her life during this interview and said she almost didn’t want him to hear Younger Now because a good portion of it is about him. “I put this dude through so much shit…. He’ll tell me something, and then all of the sudden it’s in one of my songs,” she said. “The day the album came out, he said he bought the album and was going to go take a shower and listen, and I’m like, ‘Maybe don’t.”
This make sense, but something tells me Hemsworth is a big fan of the album. I mean, how could he not like “Malibu”? It’s the happiest song of 2017.
