This ‘Gilmore Girls’ Theory Will Convince You That Rory and Logan End Up Together

Attention: Spoilers ahead if you still haven’t seen all four installments of Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life

The Gilmore Girls Netflix revival, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, is still screwing up people’s lives—mostly because of its bonkers, ambiguous ending. If you forgot—is that even possible?—the fourth installment ended with Rory telling Lorelai that she’s pregnant. As for which knight in shining armor Connecticut scrub she ends up with, that’s also ambiguous. Dean is out, but Jess and Logan might be in. Basically, A Year in the Life gave us more questions than answers—even though it was supposed to do the exact opposite.

But that’s what fan theories are for. It didn’t even take 24 hours after the revival premiered for fans to drum up ideas about whom Rory ends up with. We reported on one theory that shipped Rory and Jess as a kind of Lorelai and Luke parallel. However, this new—albeit brief—theory suggests something else entirely: Rory’s romantic future will actually mirror grandma Emily Gilmore’s. That means Rory ends up with her version of Richard Gilmore: Logan. Effing. Huntzberger.

This theory appeared on Reddit in late November, but it gained momentum after it popped up on Facebook. And it certainly has merit.

Think about it: Emily and Richard met when they were students at Yale. At the time, Richard had plans to marry his family-approved girlfriend, Pennilyn Lott. However, Richard broke things off with Pennilyn to be with Emily—much to the dismay of his mother, who wrote him a letter the day before he married Emily begging him to reconsider. He didn’t, of course, and Richard and Emily remained a WASPy power couple until he passed away in 2014.

This closely aligns with Rory and Logan’s story. The two also met at Yale. Fast forward to A Year in the Life: Logan is engaged to a ritzy heiress named Odette, whom his parents love. However, he is having an affair with Rory, who serves as the “other woman” (read: Emily) in this scenario. Also, remember that the Huntzbergers never approved of Rory, much like Richard’s mother didn’t like Emily. We leave the revival thinking Logan will marry Odette—but he could end things after learning he is the father of Rory’s baby. In this case, he and Rory would end up together, which ultimately parallels Emily and Richard’s love story. How romantic (and eerie), right?

Again, this is just a theory. We’ll probably never know for sure whom Rory ends up with. My money is on the Wookie.
