Watch the First ‘Outlander’ Screen Test and Marvel at Jamie and Claire’s Instant Chemistry

Let’s just be honest here: One of the biggest draws of Starz’s TV show Outlander is the steamy sex scenes between Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan. Don’t get me wrong, the show is fantastic without their sauciness. The narratives are interesting and compelling, the setting is breathtaking, and the actors are superb in their roles. However, it doesn’t hurt that every five seconds, Heughan’s either shirtless or wearing a billowing shirt and passionately kissing Balfe. Well, in the first season at least. The sex scenes still exist, but they’ve died down a bit in favor of new narratives.

You can credit Balfe and Heughan’s chemistry for the jaw-dropping quality of these scenes, though. There’s an undeniable spark between them on screen that’s thrilling to watch—and it was palpable from their first screen test. One of the special features on the Outlander season three Blu-ray is Balfe and Heughan’s first chemistry read, and the heat radiating off them is insane. The fact they had it so early is a sign they were made for their characters on Outlander.

Check it out for yourself, below. My sexual orientation is Sam Heughan wearing a grey-colored henley. Like, hello dream boat.

Despite all this passion, though, Balfe contends there’s not as much sexuality on Outlander as people think. “If you look at the amount of episodes that [sex is] feature[d] in, it’s not in every single one,” she told Glamour a few months back. “I also think those moments have to be earned by the characters and their journey. We’ve always said that as a show, we try to make it not gratuitous. You don’t want to cheapen it.” Trust me, Balfe, you and Heughan aren’t cheapening anything!

Who’s ready for season four? Outlander , season three will be available on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital as well as on a Limited Collector’s Edition on April 10.
