We All Agree That We Love Fat Schmidt–But Let’s Not Forget That Fat Monica Paved His Way!
So, I know this morning I just revealed that I love a good celebrity feud but let me be clear that what I’m about to say is not intended to start one. Here goes. Just like my fellow Obsessed writer Megan Angelo, I love it when Fat Schmidt makes an appearance on New Girl. He’s hilarious and lovable all in one. But . . .Fat Schmidt wouldn’t even exist if it weren’t for Fat Monica on Friends!
Hear me out! I support Fat Schmidt wholeheartedly. But I am a believer in paying homage to your roots, if you will, and really in honor of Fat Schmidt I feel it’s only right to pay tribute to the original dancing queen!
But, like Fat Schmidt helps you to better understand present day Schmidt, that’s exactly what Fat Monica did too. You understood why thin Monica was OCD about well everything. This was the awkward, insecure girl that led her parents to believe a hurricane broke their porch swing and tried to eat macaroni glued to her jewelry box after being sent to bed without supper. We also find out Monica lost weight after she overheard Chandler call her fat when he came home to Ross and Monica’s house for Thanksgiving back in college.
Thin Monica emerges the next Thanksgiving and tries to get revenge on Chandler for calling her fat—except her plan goes horribly wrong and she accidentally severs Chandler’s toe (sadly the only clip I could find of this was in Spanish but trust me– it’s worth finding).
Here’s the deal, we all have a little Fat Schmidt or Fat Monica in us that has NOTHING to do with looks or weight. We’ve all had things to overcome or defining moments in our past that shaped us into the people we are today. That’s why I think these flashback episodes resonate so deeply!
So let’s discuss! Who do you relate to (or love) more—Fat Schmidt or Fat Monica?
