Where Are They Now: The Man Candy of Those Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen Movies
It should come as no surprise that I’m a wee bit obsessed with fraternal twins (zing!) Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, and have been since their “You got it, Dude!” heyday. And while MK & A moved from the small screen to the… just as small screen (disclaimer: I’m in absolutely no position to judge straight-to-video movies), I always looked to the girls for major fashion moments. But I’m not just talking those blonde flipped ‘do’s, tie-dyed bell bottoms and complementing bikinis. Another accessory the twins never left the house without, was the arm candy. Which leads me to my next question… do the hotties from the Mary-Kate and Ashley classics hold up?
Blake McIver Ewing
The now 27-year-old played Michelle’s friend, Derek, on Full House (yes, they remained friends, even though he beat out Michelle for the part of Yankee Doodle in the school play). But even more impressive? He voiced Eugene, the accidental-prone sidekick in Nickelodeon’s Hey Arnold.
Ethan Peck
Gregory Peck’s grandson, Ethan, played Michel, a chapeaux-wearing Frenchman who steals a kiss from Mary-Kate during an epic slow dance in 1999’s Passport to Paris. So, where has Ethan been since? Well, in Glamour‘s 2013 Hot List, for starters! Hey, Ethan, you didn’t tell us you could rock a French accent so well!
Brocker Way
Brocker (cool name!) played Jean, the ying to Ethan Peck’s yang, in Passport to Paris, which means he was Ashley’s guy. (Check him out below, on the orange moped.) Brocker was such a hit with the twins, that four years later, he even played himself in their 2003 Survivor-esque movie, The Challenge. The latest we’ve heard from Brocker is he shifted over to music, released a folk album with his brother in 2008, and scored a short film in 2009. Check out the brothers’ tunes here.
Michael Cera
OK guys, so this is amazing. Michael Cera, the forever awkward do-gooder, started off his career as a total bully. Just check him out as an eleven-year-old in 1999’s Switching Goals, picking on a shoe salesman in the clip below. Seriously, this is a gem of a clip. Enjoy it, relish in it, and forever know that Sir Cera does, in fact, have a mean streak.
Michelangelo Tommaso
The Italian-born stud played Paolo in 2002’s When In Rome. And while that was more or less the last we heard of Michelangelo stateside, from the looks of it, he’s been working the TV circuit in Italy with parts on Don Matteo and Un Paso dal Cielo.
Riley Smith
The model-turned-actor was hand-picked by MKA to play the rebellious bike messenger in 2004’s New York Minute, and entered the film with the cheesiest meet-cute: Ashley’s skirt gets stuck in his bike, ripping into the perfect mini. Nice. Since then, he’s had a stint on loads of shows, and can be seen as Riley Wallace on 90210.
Jared Padalecki
Although Jared will forever be Rory Gilmore’s Dean to me, he played a Senator’s son in MKA’s last film together, New York Minute, and has since gone on to star in Supernatural. The Supernatural move has done wonders for Jared—he married his co-star, Genevieve Cortese, three years ago, and they welcomed their first child, Thomas Colton, last year. Mazel!
