Best Dressed at the American Music Awards: Kendall Jenner, Rita Ora, and Miss America!
Music’s biggest names, plus plenty of actors and reality stars, hit the red carpet for tonight’s American Music Awards. The AMAs are typically more casual than the Oscars or Emmys, but I’m happy to report that this year there were all kinds of glamorous floor-length gowns mixed in with the sexy cocktail dresses.
In case you need a reminder that white can make for a very steamy style moment, look no further than Kate Beckinsale in this low-cut Kaufmanfranco gown. She got her major bling statement courtesy of a Bulgari necklace (“I love a bit of snake” she told Giuliana Rancic on the carpet). She’s wearing Brian Atwood shoes and carrying a Lee Savage clutch.
So, it wasn’t the Oscars, but Olivia Munn’s metallic gold dress looked positively statuette’esque. For extras, she picked ankle-strap heels and a gunmetal belt worn at the natural waist.
Julianne Hough picked an electric red dress from a designer she’s copped to loving: Zuhair Murad. This one featured a tall leg slit and triangular cutouts at the neckline. She carried a clutch by Lee Savage and wore Tamara Mellon sandals and Meira T rings.
It was black, white, and gray for Kendall Jenner, whose skinny-strapped Yigal Azrouël halter dress cut all the way up to her hips, showing off black briefs.
The gorgeous bright yellow Zac Posen gown that Rita Ora picked was a last-minute decision, but, gosh, it was a good one. She told Giuliana she was very excited no one else picked the color and also admitted that it “took a minute to get into this dress,” which is some style honesty I appreciate. She carried a vintage Swarovski clutch.
I loved Miss America Kira Kazanstev’s crop top and ball skirt combo—it’s a perfect example of how to make the tiny top work for a formal event (and what an intro to the red carpet!). Her earrings, cuff, and bangle are all by Erickson Beamon.
Nicki Minaj can have some misses for me, but I really liked the sporty vibe from this Alexander Wang mini. Cutouts at the side showed some skin, but it has a high neck, so they balanced each other out. For heels, she did Manolo Blahnik.
There’s something positively artful about the layered folds of Taylor Schilling’s black-and-white minidress. She could’ve gone with a neutral shoe, but instead brightened up the look with patent red pumps. For her bag and shoes, she picked Lee Savage and Brian Atwood.
Vivienne Westwood knows how to make a dress for a woman’s bod, and Charlie XCX was the latest to rock it perfectly (this style is from the designer’s Red Label). The draped fit and off-the-shoulder cut made her look like an absolute goddess.
Who was your absolute favorite of the night?
