I’ll totally understand if there were parts of last night’s VMAs that made you feel like you were time-traveling back a few decades—the evening’s best dressed aside, there was so much fashion that seemed insanely inspired, if not directly plucked, from red carpets of yore.

Katy Perry could’ve borrowed Britney Spears’s exact denim dress for how shockingly similar it looked. In the part of Justin Timberlake this year? Katy collaborator Riff Raff. And before you worry that Brit Brit might be offended, don’t be. She tweeted some sweet words to Katy.

It was shocking when Rose McGowan wore it at the VMAs in 1998, and it was just as shocking now. Amber Rose stepped out in what I guess still classifies as a dress (or just a really, really big necklace). Its jaw-dropping factor hasn’t changed with age, that’s for sure.
