Bye, Bootleg Jeans! What Grown-Up Rory Gilmore Should Wear on the New *Gilmore Girls*
Good-girl twentysomethings freaked out a bit yesterday with news that Netflix was giving us a Gilmore Girls reboot, with four 90-minute episodes that the majority of the original cast are reportedly signed on for. While the rest of the details are still fairly minimal, it’s reasonable to imagine that we’ll be checking in with Lorelai and Rory now, circa 2015, and guys—Rory is going to be a full-fledged adult. Which means a grown-up closet that’s ready for things like, oh, long days in an office.
To recap, the finale ended with Rory heading off to stump for Barack Obama, which probably meant she spent the next bit of time in a combo of jeans, hoodies, and simple office basics like neutral trousers and practical blazers. In all likelihood, she was probably rocking most of the same stuff from her Stars Hollow closet with a few special new pieces we bet Lorelai (or grandma Emily) bought as a special treat.
Suffice it to say, whether we meet Netflix’s Rory when she’s working as a major political reporter or she’s busy being a young mom and trying to deal as a freelance writer (or something else entirely different), you could do a lot worse than to bet she’s in subdued separates that are more classic than trendy or envelope-pushing.
Herewith, our thoughts on what Netflix costume designers are gathering up right this very second:
1. Smart Turtlenecks
We imagine Rory as being an early adopter of the now trendy turtleneck. In fact, to be frank, she probably has had one in her closet since she was in elementary school. It’s sophisticated and chic enough to work at the office while also adding an extra bit of warmth. Brilliant.
2. Cropped Trousers
And you know adult Rory is a J.Crew loyalist, with plenty of the brand’s preppy classics on rotation. From tip to toe, we can see Stars Hollow’s most-likely-to-succeed in these cropped pants, simple blouse, and statement coat.
3. Designer Collaborations
Plus, something tells us that Rory will be too careful with her budget to splurge on big-ticket designer items. As such, we envision her as a savvy shopper of all collaborations. She probably wouldn’t queue up for Balmain x H&M, but Boden’s preppy Brit-inspired pieces? They have her name all over ’em.
Psst—the majority of the cast reunited over the summer and spilled on where they think their characters would be now.
