Catherine Zeta-Jones Does Decolletage Tastefully (And Here’s How You Can, Too)
The old saying “If you’ve got it, flaunt it” should have come with an asterisk and a whole host of rules for maintaining your elegance and sophistication while showing off your best assets. And that rule book could easily have been written by Catherine Zeta-Jones, who wowed us with her restrained take on cleavage on the red carpet last night.
Here’s the drop-dead beauty (did you vote for her in our Most Glamorous Hall of Fame poll?) at the opening night of her new Broadway play, A Little Night Music, wearing a long Gustavo Cadile gown with a scandalously low neckline. But a few important tips and tricks keep this look safely on the tasteful side of decolletage. Here’s what we can learn from Catherine:

__Fit isn’t just important, it’s essential. __ The only thing worse than showing too much cleavage is inadvertently showing too much cleavage. If your dress keeps slipping or you’re tugging at your neckline all night, people will in fact be staring at you, but not for the right reasons. Notice how Catherine’s breasts look like they’re perfectly cradled by the cups on this dress? Make sure your dress hugs your curves exactly where it needs to in order to keep you covered–fashion tape was invented for a reason!
-
Keep the rest of your look low-key. It’s one of my cardinal rules of dressing, and it bears repeating again here–don’t show off more than one key body part at a time! If you want to make your chest center stage, keep those legs covered up, like Catherine did, with a longer hemline.

But it’s okay to draw all eyes towards the main attraction. If you’re going to go for it, go for it! Notice how many elements of this look combine to bring your attention towards her decolletage? Her hair is swept back, her neck is kept bare, and her earrings dangle in a perfectly flirty place.
Is your cleavage one of your best assets, like Catherine’s? What are your own rules for looking appropriate when you show it off? Are you surprised at how elegant she looks while showing this much skin? Discuss!
