Fashiony Besties: Before Cara and Rita and Kate and Naomi,There Was Blossom and Six
Before Cara Delevingne and Rihanna, Kate Moss, and Naomi Campbell, and pre-2012 Victoria Beckham and Katie Holmes, Blossom Russo and Six Lemeure were fashion-risk-taking besties heating up the small screen. For five seasons, they both rocked the best hat collection predating Kate Middleton’s fascinators and layering skills that rival Alexa Chung’s—all while navigating teen angst and major social issues like divorce and substance abuse. Womp-womp. Oh and there was that one time the BFFs camped out for 15 hours for—wait for it—C+C Music Factory concert tickets. Oh, the pre-Internet era. But enough of the serious topics and one-hit-wonders, let’s get back to the Fashion Flashback Friday.
Six and Blossom look like babies here. So young that what they’re wearing has totally cycled back into style again. Flared skirts, printed bomber jackets, elevated denim, stripes, and, oh yes, the hotly debated scrunchie.
Can’t decide what I like more in this pic: Blossom’s “flair” (Office Space reference!) or Joey’s upholstery-patterned vest. David Silver would be proud. I just can’t make fun of Six here; her lace-trimmed skirt and midcalf boots are really cute.
Six’s and Blossom’s hats were the best, but props to Blossom for trying out a bandanna topknot thing. And Six’s hat ribbon matches her skirt!
The girls and their style matured as the series went on. Six traded out the wide-brim hats with rosettes for a more menswear-inspired newsboy cap with suspenders. Blossom opted for New York black, thigh-high socks, and Converse Chucks.
We obviously have to end Flashback Friday with this amazing rocker rebel awesomeness. It’s as if Six, Joey, and Blossom attended this year’s punk-theme Met Ball! Six is totally channeling the new Miley Cyrus with her bra top and fake tat, while Blossom’s faking a trendy piercing. Can’t you just hear the Dad Jeans-rockin’ Joey going, “WHOA.”
