Funny Is Always In Fashion: Tina Fey And Amy Poehler, We’re Talking To You
Fashion might not exactly be funny, but funny is always in fashion. Case in point: Golden Globes hosts Tiny Fey and Amy Poehler, who we are officially naming the first Glamour Style Icon(s) of the Week of 2014.
These ladies are so talented, accomplished, prolific—and hello, HILARIOUS—but they also blow us away with their style on the red carpet. They understand the power of dressing for your body type, being loyal to designers and how to pose for pictures perfectly with your bestie.
Here we go!
At first I thought I’d have to sift through a million pics of Tina and Amy separately but then found tons of the two friends and colleagues together. I love it! They go way back—20 years in fact—when they met at an improv class in Chicago. They later became household names on Saturday Night Live to eventually anchor the Weekend Update desk as a duo—and hit the awards-show circuit together. Here they are in 2008 at the Emmy Awards. Tina stuns in a body-con David Meister gown, while mommy-to-be Amy glows in a floral Zac Posen.
In 2010, the BFFs shared a table at the Golden Globe Awards, at which Tina and 30 Rock were nominated. Tina wore a strapless, midi-length Zac Posen dress, while Amy looked lovely in a red one-shoulder rosette gown. As you go through all these pics, you might notice that Tina and Amy always stand in the same spots next to each other, but in this shot, they’ve switched places. Hmm…
In 2011, Tina and Amy (back in position) walked the red carpet of the SAG Awards together. Tina’s a lady in floral appliqué red by Oscar de la Renta, while Amy rocks a classic LBD and Stuart Weitzman heels.
In 2012, Tina and Amy were both nominated for Best Actress in a comedy at the Golden Globes, for 30 Rock and Parks and Recreation, respectively. Laura Dern ended up picking up the trophy, but no matter, the BFFs went on to the after-party anyway. Tina in a wine-hued Oscar de la Renta and Amy in a sparkly Naeem Khan gown.
And onto the next year when Tina and Amy hosted the Golden Globes (what I like to think of as the best awards show ever). And as hosts are wont to do, the ladies enjoyed the privilege of multiple outfits. First up: Tina in a beautiful beaded tea-length L’Wren Scott dress and Salvatore Ferragamo platforms and Amy showing some cleavage in a Stella McCartney pantsuit with Charlotte Olympia heels. Liz Lemon and Leslie Knope would be so proud.
The ladies then hit the stage with loads of clever wit and banter, plus more flawless fashion—Tina in another body-con L’Wren Scott confection and Amy in an edgy Stella McCartney.
Keeping the 2013 awards season momentum going, Tina and Amy hit the SAG Awards looking gooooood in Euro-chic black. Tina wore an elegantly tiered Oscar de la Renta accented with a belt, and Amy kept the edgy going in a strappy, piped Zuhair Murad gown.
To give us a hint of what’s to come in 2014 awards season, Tina and Amy rocked the Emmy Awards stage in September. Tina stunned in a cobalt halter gown by Narciso Rodriguez, while Amy experimented in a sheer-paneled black dress by Basler.
With all these beautiful gowns, sometimes we forget that the ladies can really rock a power suit too.
Right? Just had to throw this one in there just for kicks.
Which look is your favorite? (And, yes, the last couple count too.) So are you looking forward to the Golden Globe Awards on Sunday, January 12? And who else are you excited to see on the red carpet?
