I Do or I Don’t: Giving Lingerie as Bridal Shower Presents
At the very first bridal shower I attended…
I gave the bride a sexy little number. I had already bought an engagement gift off her wedding registry, so I wanted to do something fun. I wasn’t the only one who gave lingerie at that bridal shower: Her mom gave her the most gorgeous floor-length white nightgown and several other guests went the scandalous route like I did.
And I regret it. I didn’t get much lingerie, but of the three gifts, I’ve only worn one. I’m flattered the ladies who got the other two think I could squeeze myself into those tiny undergarments, but nope, I am just not that thin.
Recently, I went to a bridal shower where the bride got a lot of lingerie. Guess who most of it was from? The mother of the groom! I’m hoping those two have a closer relationship than the typical bride and mother-in-law because most of those gals would spontaneously combust if they open anything remotely racy (let alone crotch-less, like this bride got!) from their grooms’ moms.
So does giving lingerie as a bridal shower gift get a thumbs-up or a thumbs-down from you? Is it ever OK for the groom’s mom to give the bride lingerie? What about the mother of the bride?
