Lily James Felt “Completely Transformed” In Her Cinderella Gown
Even without having seen Cinderella, I can tell you I’m going to love it for the costumes alone. We finally got to check out Cinderella’s sweet wedding dress yesterday, and back in the fall we were first introduced to the gorgeous version of the famous blue dress star Lily James gets to wear.
Lily’s comments on actually wearing everything reads like what I’ve seen other actresses say of period pieces: It’s hard work!
“With corsets, it’s interesting when you put them on, realizing that’s what women actually wore. They’re just so constricting,” she told Time. “In the blue dress it was particularly tight. When I was trying to dance, I didn’t have the capacity to breathe to support the physicality, and so I had to keep taking breaks and loosening the corset.” Those breaks did not include a ton of noshing or sit-down meals though. “You’d sort of be eating on the move. In that case, I couldn’t untie the corset,” she revealed to E!. “If you ate food, it didn’t really digest properly, and I’d be burping all afternoon in [Richard Madden]’s face, and it was just really sort of unpleasant. I’d have soup so that I could still eat but it wouldn’t get stuck.”
Soup diet and all, it was that wasp-waisted cornflower blue gown that claimed top spot as her favorite. “I felt completely transformed. And that’s what fairy tales are all about: transformation. When I put that dress on, I felt like I could be a princess.”
Like I said, I’m all about the movie’s costumes, but I’m also so in love with everything she chose for the promo tour. This Elie Saab couture gown, worn at the L.A. premiere, still makes me sigh with its perfection as a choice.
Are you planning on seeing Cinderella? Taking little ones or just you and some girlfriends?
