Madonna’s Iconic Cone Bra Isn’t The Only Kooky Bra Designed by Birthday Boy Jean Paul Gaultier

Remember the iconic cone bra Madonna wore for her Blond Ambition tour way back in 1990?

That isn’t the only breast-ccentric contraption legendary designer Jean Paul Gaultier—who turns 61 today!— made. Nope, there have also been molded metal shields, multicolor wire cages, and even sculptural spirals made from purple velour.

Behold! Some of the designer’s most eye-catching, awe-inspiring, and, OK, jaw-dropping bras below.

Why, yes, that is Carla Bruni wearing that pink, fringed heart set in 1997.

This was in 2004, but couldn’t you totally picture someone on Game of Thrones wearing this metal breastplate?

And everything comes full circle: Madonna had the designer create a whole new set of fancy harness bras for last year’s MDNA tour.

Though these pieces have shocked and delighted JPG fans (and the fashion industry at large) for more than three decades, the designer has always remained calm about his kooky body of work: “I’m still astounded by some people’s reaction to things I consider quite normal,” he’s said.

We’re huge fans of the creativity on display here (not to mention anything retro Madonna-related), but what do you think? Got a favorite?
