Meghan Markle’s Wedding-Reception Look Was So Good, Other Royals Are Trying It
Apparently, non-royals aren’t the only ones scrambling to find dresses similar to Meghan Markle’s gorgeous wedding-reception gown in the post-Royal Wedding market. On Thursday, Princess Sofia of Sweden attended an event wearing an emerald-green ensemble that reminded many of the Duchess of Sussex’s white Stella McCartney. The Meghan Markle effect is real, people!
Elle reports that Princess Sofia walked the turquoise carpet at the Polar Music Prize Award ceremony at the Grand Hôtel in Stockholm in a gorgeous floor-length sleeveless dress with a wide, choker-style halter neck and a slightly fluted train—a silhouette that bore a strong resemblance to Markle’s second ensemble for her May 19 wedding in Windsor.
For reference, here’s Princess Sofia’s version, which she paired with a small gold purse and metallic pointed-toe pumps.
And here’s Meghan Markle’s, which she wore with an emerald-cut aquamarine ring that once belonged to Princess Diana.
The differences between Sofia’s and Meghan’s gowns are minor, the main one being that the Swedish princess’s was slightly more fitted and, of course, in a different color. Still, the halter-neck silhouette does seem to be having a resurgence.
If you, like Princess Sofia, are feeling inspired by Markle’s stunning gown, you’re in luck: Stella McCartney announced this week she’ll be making 46 dresses inspired by the Duchess of Sussex’s reception look, as part of her upcoming “Made With Love” capsule collection; each is expected to retail for £3,500 (just over $4,650), and requests to purchase will be vetted by the designer. May the odds be ever in your favor!
