It’s official! After all the debate and CIA-like information lockdown on what Mrs. O would wear on Inauguration Night, the wait is finally over! For her uber-fancy debut as First Lady, Michelle Obama chose an ivory, one-strap rosette-covered confection from New York-based designer Jason Wu. Pictures to come soon!
As you can see it’s a pretty delectable little number:
When the President and his trendsetting First Lady danced to Beyonce singing Etta James’ timeless At Last, I have to admit, the look started feeling a little wedding gown-y to me, but then I got over it pretty quickly after I realized that 1) this day is probably just as momentous for Michelle as the day she got hitched to Barack, so the off-white shade makes sense and 2) I’ve got a lot of friends looking for gorgeous wedding dress ideas–and this Jason Wu gown blows all of them right out of the water. (Hear that Jason? Your new legions of fans will be fighting themselves, all Bride Wars style, to get their hands on one of your white spring dresses!)
Meanwhile, we know it’s bad form to say “I told you so”, but we can’t resist pointing out that way back in ’08 we placed bets that Michelle Obama would make Jason Wu a superstar and if you pick up our January issue, you’ll can find Wu’s vision of the perfect cheap-chic outfit–that we can all wear!
What do you think of Michelle Obama’s Jason Wu gown?
Thoughts on Mrs. Obama’s inaugural gown choice? Shocked? Awed? Bookmarking this image in your “Dream Wedding” file? Did you see Jill Biden’s strapless crimson gown? Which one did you like—or rather which one would* you* wear? You’re not going to see glamour like this until the Oscars, so let’s hear what you think about things!
