Our Latest Model Obsession Liu Wen Is Our Style Icon of the Week!
Liu Wen isn’t just a supermodel, red carpet pro, and all around street-style star; she’s also a ground-breaker. The Hunan-born stunner is the first Asian face of Estée Lauder and one of the Asian catwalking pioneers to walk in the Victoria’s Secret runway show (four years and counting!) and. The venerated New York Times even honored her with the superlative “China’s first bona fide supermodel,” so how’s that for fashion credentials? Even more legit—in 2013, Liu earned a spot on the Forbes highest-paid models list (along the likes of Gisele Bundchen, Miranda Kerr, and Kate Moss). So there you go.
About time! After all, fashion is a global industry, and stellar style spans geographic borders—especially sartorial skills like Liu’s. We’re not just impressed by her flawless red carpet outings and poised turns on the runway, we’re also dying to copy her effortless street style. (And honestly, she just seems like a lot of fun, as you can tell by the behind-the-scenes high-fashion sneak peeks via her Instagram.) So for all of the above, we must crown Liu Wen with the Glamour Style Icon of the Week honor. So if you’re not already familiar with her efforts—read up now:
*I always love a good Liu Wen outing at Cannes. They’re always so good—like her Grecian-goddess moment in a gorgeous teal Roberto Cavalli gown at a Chopard event in 2012. Check out the brilliant jewels on her ears and wrist too. *
The same year, she went short and bold for the annual amfAR event in a sparkly and feathery harness dress, clutch, and cutout heels by Fendi.
At Cannes in 2013, Liu hit the amfAR party again, but this time in this dazzling cream pleated gown by Roberto Cavalli.
Liu has walked the runways for top-notch designers from Burberry to Chanel, so she’s a regular at all the Fashion Weeks. We also love her spotted off-the-NYFW-runway looks, like her matchy-matchy off-duty-model outfit next to fellow catwalker (and VS model) Sui He.
Here she is post-show and solo, effortlessly tying a plaid flannel over a floaty lace dress accessorized with a structured ladylike purse and studded lace-up boots.
True to her icon-model status, Liu is a fashion chameleon too. We know she can do stunning ball gown, but here she is absolutely nailing a vibrantly modern pantsuit look by Opening Ceremony.
But I do love Liu in a ball gown (after all, she was one of the few to actually follow the dress code at last month’s Met Gala). I’m especially dying over her in this beautiful Elie Saab couture dress that she wore at the Chopard party at Cannes last month.
And Liu somehow makes a cutouts look ethereal and romantic in this sublime gown from the Vionnet spring 2014 collection. I die.
I’m completely obsessed. Do you like her style? Which look do you like best?
