Outfit Ideas That Answer the Question: What Color Matches Brown?
I’ve always loved the color brown. Admittedly, it can be a bit tricky to pull off, but after going to a ton of market appointments (many of which hint at fall trends to come during Fashion Month), it’s clear that the shade is back in a big way. Here are four of my favorite ways to wear it.
Pair a camel statement coat with black cropped trousers: Whether you go for one in leather or faux fur, a bright brown coat can make a monochromatic outfit pop. Burberry showed its chestnut shag one with simple cropped pants and heels, but another way to wear this type of coat is with classic blue jeans and ankle boots.
Mix and match your browns: Copper and camel can create a decidedly polished look for the office while allowing you to give your tried-and-true navy slacks a rest. Chloe showed wide legs with a preppy peacoat, giving off a ’70s-career-girl vibe.
Team brown leather and jewel tones: Black leather can seem severe during the workday, but a russet shift dress on the other hand, like this Gucci number, fits the bill. A rich teal blouse takes the harshness out of the fabric, making the dress perfect for the boardroom.
Ditch your basic black sweater for a chic umber knit: Look to Proenza Schouler for lessons on how to layer knit over knit over knit this season. By pairing an oversize sweater with a prim skirt, the borrowed-from-the-boys proportion feels elevated and ladylike. In this deep shade of brown, the silhouette is still slimming and subtle, just not as dark.
Will you work brown into your wardrobe this season? How will you wear it?
