See All Angles of Angelina Jolie’s Maleficent Premiere Dress
There’s rarely a right or wrong for red carpet dressing (or any dressing, for that matter, unless you’re in a country where leggings are strongly discouraged). That said, I think Angelina Jolie made the absolute, 100 percent correct choice with the rubberized silk Atelier Versace gown she chose for Maleficent‘s Hollywood premiere.
It’s so Angelina, which sometimes I get a little tired of (how many chic black dresses can one woman wear?). But for this movie, where her glamorously evil character is all about the deep sinister color, you couldn’t do better than this.
I adore red carpet dressing but usually feel like I’m really missing out on something by not getting to see the dress from every single angle (can you imagine how fabulous it would be to be there in person examining it all??). Because I have a hunch some of you out there feel the same, let’s talk a look.
Up close, you can see where the fabric swirls and gathers at the waist.
There’s a train fit for a queen of doom…
…but also a handy leg slit so walking isn’t impossible (even a superwoman like Ange needs to be mobile).
When the dress moves, it’s obvious that it’s not a full ball gown but instead more of a column silhouette with gathered fabric at her right hip. It has all the drama of a big, princess-like fit, but it’s sharper and even feels a touch retro.
And the jewelry! These matching spike bracelets make me wonder if she’s the type of girl who gets really into a costume party.
Yep. She definitely loves a costume party. Those. Earrings.
What about you? Do you think this dress was a perfect choice for the premiere?
