Selena Gomez Wore a Moto Jacket Dress to the AMAs, and We Want to Copy It ASAP
Selena Gomez has long harbored a major fashion fetish for leather jackets, but tonight she took it to a whole new level.
The pop star stepped out at the 2017 American Music Awards sporting an edgy blonde lob and what can only be described as an über-biker look. Custom-designed by Coach’s creative director Stuart Vevers, her red carpet look is a riff on the fashion house’s signature moto jacket. (A Pokémon evolution, if you will.) Hitting Gomez at mid-thigh, the garment resembles a biker jacket but was fitted at the waist to be worn as a mini-dress. Coach balanced out its sleek Matrix vibes with some bronze and blue sequined stars, while the “Wolves” singer glammed it up with silver hoop Roberto Coin earrings and bedazzled black pumps.
Gomez was named the new face of Coach in 2016, starring in the brand’s road-trip-themed Fall 2017 campaign this summer. The collection pairs Vevers’ popular leather jackets with softer, girlier embellishments—lots of sequined roses and songbird appliqués—and hipster Laura Ingalls Wilder dresses in ruffled plaid and floral prints. “Selena is a rebel and a romantic, a dreamer and a doer who boldly charts her own course,” Vevers said when the campaign debuted. “To me, she speaks to a generation; she connects.”
Tonight’s outfit perfectly encapsulates Vevers’ quote, combining equal parts of rebellious and romantic in one trend-setting, Instagram-ready look. Don’t be surprised if all your fav It Girls brave the cold in their takes on Gomez’ biker mini-dress this winter.
