The New Warby Parker Collaboration Every Fashion Girl Will Be Wearing

Designer Virgil Abloh, fresh off a CFDA Award nomination for his label Off-White, is gearing up to launch a series of collaborations—some of which we’ve been following on Instagram for a while now (e.g., his upcoming pair-up with Nike) and others that caught us by surprise but are exciting nonetheless. His capsule for Warby Parker falls in the latter group.

Launching today, Off-White c/o Virgil Abloh x Warby Parker consists of three jet-black geometric sunglasses—Small Sunglasses, Medium Sunglasses, and Large Sunglasses—which will each retail for $95. The styles, all crafted of thick acetate, are pretty dramatic thanks to their sharp corners, angular shapes, and antireflective coatings. “I welcomed the idea of bringing a unique concept to life, one shape extended and compressed to express a different emotion within eyewear,” Abloh said of the collaboration in a statement. “I’m honored to work with such a progressive company like Warby Parker, who was able to help me fully realize my vision.”

Neil Blumenthal, Warby Parker’s cofounder and co-CEO, tells Glamour that the collaboration between his company and Abloh’s Off-White “felt natural,” as both brands “were born from the idea that high-quality products shouldn’t be limited in their availability to a small community.” The designer “brings a dash of the avant-garde to our assortment,” he explains—the sunglasses are “high-concept but wearable, which feels like the ultimate melding of our design ethos with his.”

Ever since it launched in 2010, Warby Parker has been pretty embedded in the fashion industry, teaming up with a range of players, such as Suno, Amanda de Cadenet , and even, well, us (hi!) on capsule collections. “Most of our collaborations stem from long-standing relationships, some stretching back to our prelaunch days,” Blumenthal says. “We gravitate toward partners that take an innovative approach to their respective industries—people who have a fresh take on what they do and care deeply about pursuing it. Through our collaborations, we aim to create something unprecedented and unexpected for both brands.”

Off-White, meanwhile, has been ramping up its partnerships as of late: The brand codesigned a line with Levi’s last fall and will soon be releasing some limited-edition Nike gear. (Though, unless you’re Bella Hadid, you probably don’t have many specifics about that launch.)

For Warby Parker, these types of pair-ups are a way to live out the saying, “Two minds are often better than one,” according to Blumenthal. “One of our core values internally is to never stop learning and growing,” he explains. “We apply the same standards to our collaborations, which continually inject our brand and our thinking with unconventional perspectives and new takes on what is, ultimately, a classic and essential part of everyone’s wardrobe.”
